Book Review: The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen
Hello everyone,
Welcome to a new book review from my blog. I will be sharing my knowledge from the book using a quote that stood out to me. The quote from the book The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen is:
“Simple daily disciplines—little productive actions, repeated consistently over time—create success.”
It would not be surprising to uncover that this quote is the one that stuck with me because I am a big believer in the philosophy of consistency. I strongly believe that when you do something consistently over time, you are bound to become successful at it. Now I have Jeff Olsen resonating it in my brain. It is not about becoming successful just by doing something once, but doing it consistently. The author also makes mention of the idea of the slight edge. Two individuals could do something of close similarity, but there will be something that distinguishes one from the other; this is what Jeff Olsen refers to as the slight edge. The slight edge could be that one individual is more patient than the other, or one is more disciplined. This kind of slight edge may seem small, but when compounded over time, it becomes a tool that is quite useful. Success is not a grandiose event; rather, it is a correlation of minor events combined into one.
At the beginning, this slight edge seems almost invisible. You do not see it, or in some cases, it might not be present to people who are not paying attention. It becomes hard to say this slight edge, especially when you see it as not useful until the result becomes glaring to the eye. One person trains for at least 30 minutes every day while the other does not. One person is patient enough to know that results do not come in immediately, while the other person is looking for instant rewards. Making it out with a bang is one that has to be studied closely in order to see that you have to be consistent with the little things. They become atomic habits that are easy to forgo at the beginning, but when the benefits come in, you can see they were the deciding factors.
The same thing also applies to the negatives. A simple miss out on your workout will not cause much, a simple unhealthy food may not be something to worry much about, but when it gets repeated over time, it becomes a habit, and then it is hard to quit, which is where the danger lies. It is not about small things or a one-time try, but when repeated over time, it becomes very effective. The power lies in when the little things become habits that are hard to quit, which makes it more powerful. The power of doing it over and over is where the true strength lies.
The message from the author is the idea that the sequence of actions in life does not leave you in a spot, so it either moves you forward or backward, never leaving you on neutral ground. The best part of the book is understanding that when it comes to changes, most people focus on the big things rather than pay attention to the little changes and repeating them consistently.

I picked that, and I don't know why I keep going back to that particular sentence even after going through the whole write-up. And that part about positive and negative habits stood out as well. All I can is is, you've said it all. But then, I think many people still need to either read that powerful book or stop by this your review of it.
Consistency is now underrated. So, that little actions we are taking and the little we think we are doing can in all honesty seems insignificant, but then, they can determine our results in years to come.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
