Movie Review: Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 (Live Action)
Over the weekend, I kept myself preoccupied with the latest season of The Last Airbender on Netflix. After doing such great work with the first season, it was a no-brainer for me when I decided to watch the second season. Infact I was one of those fans who kept counting the days to the release of the second season. It was a nostalgic effect gotten from the actual cartoon, as it reminds me a lot of my childhood, as I watched the cartoon as a kid. Also, the expectation for the introduction of a new character, Toph, who happens to be my favourite character because of how badass she is when it comes to earthbending.
The introduction of Toph was not the only thing packed in the second season; the creation of real events and scenes made it something special. Imagine watching the cartoon you watched as a kid turned into a real movie, and you see the cartoon scenes you enjoyed watching while you were younger, and now it comes to life. A typical example is the fight scene of how the Avatar crew comes in contact with Toph. This scene came from the popular push from Katara when she used her waterbending to extract the information from two guys who were being jerks about the information they had. It is a live action to the source material, which is the cartoon, so most things were summarised, and only key events to the story were focused on.
The second season also introduces the presence of doubt within the lead character Aang. We know he is going to be a powerful bender, but he has to go through adversities in order to achieve his destiny. Within this line is where we get to see the doubt in him with how he handles things and gets emotional. This is why I kind of got pissed with him because of how he handled certain situations, especially when he blamed Toph for the kidnapping of Appa. This led to the unveiling of more issues within the group as more and more secrets get to be spilt. Like Sokka and Toph keeping the secret of the Beifong being in business with the Fire Nation. Also, Katara running around helping people in the community disguised as the painted lady.
It is no longer like the first season, where we are introduced to the characters and the issues they face as the Fire Nation tries to take over the world. Now we see the group fighting against one another, pushing the limit of their friendship and see if they can stick together. Personally, General Iroh is one character that experiences full development with his character as he realises what his actions in Ba Sing Se have caused for the people. It does not get better than him finding salvation and coming to terms with his actions and doing his best to redeem himself. Although more awaits General Iroh, for now he has found the light. The series is a good watch, as it kept me glued down to the end, and it was watched all in just one sitting. Although Netflix has confirmed that there will be a final season, that is what I look forward to. I guess that has to be next year or later, if I am not mistaken.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
