My Life Lessons from The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory

For a couple of weeks, it has been quite hard for me to create content for my blog due to the fact I was battling malaria. It was quite challenging for me cause I felt a bit down, not in a productive zone at all and I felt like it was a result of the power of those drugs I had to take. While all I preoccupied myself with was watching movies, eating, and taking my medications even when I didn't want to. During this rehabilitative period of doing my best just to get back on my feet again, I finally remembered a sitcom a friend recommended I should try out, which happens to be THE BIG BANG THEORY

Sheldon and Amy

My first encounter with this sitcom was through the story of the popular British actress, Maisie Williams who played the role of Arya Stark in the HBO hit series, Game of Thrones. She gave her story on how she always wanted to be a part of The Big Bang Theory cast but she just wasn't picked from the audition. This made her devastated but unknown to her, she would be a star playing Arya Stark on Game of Thrones. To date, I still admire how she spoke about the silver lining in her story, and how hope is never lost as long as you keep trying and putting in your best, all these and even more she said at her TEDx talk.

So, it was only human for me to be curious about what this sitcom THE BIG BANG THEORY was all about and why people love it so much, as Maisie talked about it, my friend recommended it, and I see it often on my Instagram reels and the sitcom has a large number of followers.

The Friendship Gang

The Big Bang Theory is an American sitcom that is based on the lives of four American nerds who happen to be intelligent scientists as well. This made it even more intriguing for me cause I have this keen interest in understanding what actually goes on in the lives of scientists, how they associate, see the world, and above all live their normal lives. If I should break it to you, there is this stereotypical belief circulating out there that the lives of bookworms, popularly known as NERDS are quite boring or lack any fun. Honestly, I doubt is entirely true.

A Hug from Mama

Yes, it's true that their ways may be a little bit different from the conventional way of doing things but if you get the opportunity to gain closure with them even if it's only for a while, you will come to discover that there is more underneath the nerdy looks and vibes. You even get to see how they do things, think, and even crack jokes amongst themselves. This and more is what the sitcom gave me while watching. I got to understand their insightful jokes, funny expectations, the distinctive difficulty they each encounter when trying to talk to the opposite sex, and above all the bond they share as friends.

While watching, there are a couple of valid life lessons I could grab from the sitcom.

True Friendship can make life a lot better to live.

Sheldon at it again

Since the sitcom is based on these scientists, it was quite obvious how the producers of the sitcom were mainly focused on showcasing the strong friendship bond these four scientists shared, how each of them was there when one needed the rest of the crew, having each other's back when faced by a bully or some strong adversities. This alone gave me the meaning of true friendship, those people who were there for one another no matter the outcome, challenge one another to be a better version of themself, and above all gives out a helping hand whenever anyone of them needs it. I must say Chuck Lorre and **Bill Prady **did exceptionally well with the creation and portrayal of Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj, who are all scientists in their respective fields.

It was absolutely quite interesting to watch how each of these guys was there for their friend Howard when he lost his mom and finding really hard to move more. They each showed their support and even Sheldon, who happens to be the weirdest of them all, was still there to show his support. If this isn't true friendship, then I can only wonder what is.

No matter what, no one wants to be left alone.

Scolding from mama

A unique scene that continues to remain fresh in my memory is how Leonard and his newly wedded-wife Penny, were trying to devise a means to move in together, and no longer be neighbors but being mindful at the same time of not hurting Sheldon's feelings. They even devised a means of taking him out shopping so when he comes back from the outing, they could lessen the blow on him. But as expected, it backfired and Sheldon was hurt, instead of showing it, he tried to cover up his feelings by flaring up, then bringing out the roommate contract for Leonard to sign and trying to establish that he is fine if his closest friend moves out and leaves him.

It was only a matter of time watching Sheldon suffer through his actions, did Penny and Leonard devise a new way of living, where everybody is together and nobody is left out. This new turnout of events made Sheldon very excited and one could see from his display, he was no longer lonely. This act alone proves that no matter how strong anyone may claim they are, nobody wants to be left alone in the end.

There is nothing like being with people that make you feel more comfortable for who you are.

The Roundtable Talk

If you get to watch the sitcom, which I highly recommend you should, there is one thing you would notice amongst the friends, Leonard, Raj, Sheldon, and Howard, and the female counterparts of the friendship gang, Penny, Bernadette, and Amy. And that is, they made it an obligation to never intimidate members of the friendship gang, just because of how they look, spoke, or even dressed, instead, they adopt the logical understanding that everybody is uniquely different which makes them special in their own way.
This lesson is one predominant lesson you get to learn from the sitcom while laughing your ass out. Mind you, it's not the only lesson, but it will be good to note that respecting and accepting people for their unique differences is one that is quite admirable, and it wouldn't be too much of a lesson when you get to watch the sitcom.

Go watch THE BIG BANG THEORY guys, and have a great laugh, for I am certain you will have a good time. Thanks to the friend that recommended it, for it was a good companion while I was down.

I loved this series and I will always love it. Oddly enough when I first saw it I was sad and watching their jokes was very contagious and my energy and mood changed, I liked that. It was extremely funny to see those great friends supporting each other making science jokes.

hahaha if it's about comedy, this is a great TV series, my wife's cousin always asked for the TV at certain times just to watch them, and how not to watch them if they are great, we had a lot of fun watching them.

The Big ban series has been one of the best I watched on TV when I was a kid, they are extremely funny and always make us laugh with their crazy stuff, I'm really not surprised that everyone likes them, they are too good.

I know quite a few people that really hate this series and I can't understand why that is. While I didn't find it as funny as say Friends or Seinfeld, it was a pretty fantastic show with a lot of good characters IMO. There were also some really surprising emotional moments such as when Sheldon starts to show compassion towards other people - which is a real break from his normal characteristics. I will admit that I got misty-eyed during the Nobel Prize speech that Sheldon delivered. It was a great end to the whole show.
