LOH Community Contest #57 - My bedtime footsteps...

This is my entry to the LOH contest #57.

What are your nighttime rituals just before bedtime?

My evening rituals in preparing for bed start with putting my own children to bed. They are 8 and 10 years old respectively and after playing scrabble or cards or having another chapter of a book read to them, they both enjoy a nice cuddle and a chat about the world and his dog at bedtime ;-) (anything to delay the eventuality, right?!)

My youngest and I use a rhythmic patting and breathing system to slow down his thoughts and regulate his breath so that his brain falls in line, and gradually slows down by focussing on the slowing rhythms of hands and breaths. He will start to yawn about a minute and a half in and then we will slow to a gentle stop and I will turn him over cuddled up in his blankets with a soft cuddle toy squeezed into his arms and then sing him my own version of Rock-a-by-baby. He loves it and asks for it every night. I leave his room with the glow and hum of the water light keeping pace with his light snore.

My eldest likes to hold my hand and squeeze it whilst he tells me of the little things that may be troubling him. We usually chat for a short bit and then I leave him with hi Alexa on playing soft music whilst he plays with his toy men, before putting them to bed himself and falling asleep.

Then I retire to the lounge with my laptop and a cuppa tea, have a chat with my husband for a bit about life the universe and everything, and often stay up writing and curating on Hive til the early hours of the morning as my creativity awakens when the house is quiet.

When I am done, I head upstairs, take a nice hot shower, throw on some comfy jimber jambers (pj's), brush my teeth, and climb into bed, often with a kitty cat or three in tow.

It's a simple life...hee hee.

I invite @deraaa to join LOH and take part in the weekly contest.

This is beautiful and lovely, that you have a different routine for each of them, depending on their needs. It shows them how attuned you are to each of them! This is so precious! 💜

One thing is certain, you’re a good mother. I don’t have any children, which I think is a great shame. Your love radiates in this recounting.

You received 5 LADY(LOH) tokens for entering the Ladies of Hive contest.

Please note that since our LOH token is still so new, that it will be worth more if we HOLD them for a bit before trying to sell them. Some have been trying to sell them immediately after receiving them, but holding them for a bit will help them to increase in value! We are working behind-the-scenes to try to keep the price stable, but the "sell orders" are hampering the stabilization of the price of this new token. Please hold on to your tokens. Thank you! 🙂

¡Considere esperar! ¡Gracias! 🤗

hi @ayesha-malik😍 yes, both of my boys are adopted and so when we all became a family I wanted them to become familiar with the names in our extended family so I made an improv version of the lullaby which includes all the names of our family members, so instead of the last line being:

Down will come baby, cradle and all

...I sing

Down will come baby Oli, baby Jack, mommy, daddy, nana, grandad Mick ...

and I continue in a sing-song voice, adding all the family names (aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents) throwing in the odd pet and activity and I end the list with

And Granny Ann up in Heaven looking down from above, and everybody that we love....And ...I love you.

He loves it!

And I always get a very sleepy

I love you too mommy

in reply 💗

Awwwwwww😍 I just love this,
Most unique and amazing lullaby I have ever heard.
You are making them realize that how loving a family they have.
Those who are looking from heaven will be glad to have such remembrance each day❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just told my mom about this and she is impressed 🤭
Stay blessed dear.

8 and 10, young that they still confide in you. A touching mental imagery as you described it.
My sons are now young adults and they tend to stay up later than I can, they grew up so fast. My phone is running out of memory so I better back up and archive the precious photos.

Thank you @samsmith1971 for sharing!

It's sad how quick time flies by. Every so often, I have to do a double-take when I realise that once again I am dealing with a new version of each of my boys as they grow up and mature. It is bitter-sweet. We say goodbye to the baby, hello to the toddler, goodbye to the toddler, hello to the little boy ...and so on. As each year passes, I love the young men they are growing into, but I also miss the little boys that are slowly disappearing beneath the surface of maturity. I am a night owl so I challenge my boys to outwake me (outlast me at night) haha (outwake...is that a word hee hee...it is now !LOL). I am sure you still have a wonderful relationship with your children :-)

that sounds like a beautiful life hehehe

I used to do the reverse. hehehe well - i did have a bedtime ritual with my kids but it was shorter... but the waking up ritual!!! hahahaha that was much more methodical LOL

I think it comes from when I used to wake up to the very loud sounds of my house. hahahaa It was never very peaceful. hehehehe not bad - but not peaceful

and I always wanted to have my kids wake up in soft cuddles and back rubs and whispered voices - and then let them slowly slowly open their eyes and turn over hahahaha

my current bedtime ritual? ugh.. LOL

work until i'm exhausted

hahahahahahhahaha

terrible LOL for a few weeks i decided i was going to bed at 8 pm no matter what

that just didn't last longer than 2 weeks hahahahaha ah well. 🤣

😂 !LOL Oh, I can totally relate...You see what time I am still awake these days haha. So you can probably see it's more about my kid's ritual than anything else hee hee... I do need to learn to power down the laptop though...don't want to burn out! I'm going to work a new plan out over the coming days to cover what I need to and want to in Hive and other areas and get a better balance. A quite morning ritual...please tell me your secret! I awake to 2 noisy boys every ... single...day ...lol

hehehehehehe see ????
me and you in DM today talking about exactly this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLl

oh - and the quiet morning ritual LITERALLY began whn they were babies - so they never knew anything different hahahahahahahah

and i was always awake before them - (cuz i couldn't sleep hahaha) so I guess that was part of it too ROFLLLLLLLLLll

now if they are already too noisy?? ummmmm.. hahahaha you might be stuck with it until they are 14.

then don't worry.... they sleep 20 hours a day and there will be noise at all hahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaahahahaha

and you will get that balance, my friend.
we both will ❤️
