COASTLINE DHABA - Must try if you are on Puri Konark Marine Drive
Enjoy the Dhaba experience with luxury
COASTLINE DHABA is a multi cuisine restaurant of Toshali Sands - You don't need to stay at Toshali Sands to enjoy this facility, because you can visit this any time. We got a chance to try the delicious food prepared at this COASTLINE DHABA as part of our two day stay in Toshali Sands. Look at my previous post for my review on Toshali Sands, if you plan to stay there. Given that summer has started here, it's difficult to sit in this dhaba at day time. They have an air conditioned facility as part of the dhaba, but it was closed when we were there, so we decided to enjoy it at the evening. We were told they will have the AC facility ready by 1st week of April. Many other tourists passing by the marine drive choose this restaurant before heading to home. If you are planning one day trip to the Marine drive, then plan to have dinner here.
Do I look like a Truck Driver ? If you do not know how Dhaba got popular then let me tell you it was a place meant for truck drivers and usually they used to be located in the national highway sideways. The reason these cuts were used in Dhaba was that, those truck drivers could eat and take rest of short break for some time before heading further on their trip. This is how these Dhaba started in nineties. I remember visiting a dhaba first time in my life in my twenties - it was 13 km away from my native place, on the national highway. I still remember that experience because of the delicious food eaten first time in life in a hotel. Slowly the charcoal aroma of the food got noticed by other people passing by and then it became a place for normal people. However, most of the dhabas were not safe for family - because these truck drivers were mostly drunk and would use abusive language. Seeing the interest of family coming to these places, many dhaba owners converted them to only family dhaba where decent behavior is expected. They have people to show your way, if you go out of control. Like my attire ?
The ambience is perfectly set with cottages having dhaba style cuts - if you are tired, then you can straighten yourself before or after having your food. And you get almost every type of food of your choice, tasty like a five star restaurant with that charcoal aroma. The kids never thought, they would get their choice of pizza served in a wooden plate. And look at that mushroom manchurian.
We preferred a simple paneer tikka curry with naan in the dinner, but my son tried the mutton as well and I could not resist tasting that. My daughter got a paneer pizza with American corn.
Now look at the ambience - there is also a liquor shop to serve your need.
The kids have made it a must to visit place, whenever we visit the Puri Konark Marine Drive. Given that, this is the only marine drive we have, I see we coming here again very soon.

First of all, just learned about dhabba is using for truck drivers and for eating and resting. This is my first time seeing your family. The first question that got into my mind was will you ever recommend your children hive? Or they r already on hive? Do u see Hive as someone as inheritance? Goosh my mind asking to many questions apologies.
My wife and son are on hive - they don't post too often however.

I like lamb too, it's delicious. Those pancakes in the picture become delicious with marmalade, I tried it and it tasted great

If I saw that come out in the restaurant, I'd be tempted to order far more than one!

Because of the night, it seems to be a very quiet environment. And you can spend a lot of freedom and comfort. I was hungry when I saw the food. I also like icecream the most.
Usually they are heavily crowded in week ends. We purposely choose to go in week days to avoid crowd.
That's really cool to know the concept behind Dhaba, good for truck drivers, they can do some rest after eating food.
Those food pictures are making me Hungry 😋.
I mean that is how it started - roadside dhabas were first created for them, but now they do more business from family. The food is not pretty costly compared to good restaurants, but tastier than those places.
The place looks. When I was kid I used to go to our Dhaba (my father managed it for more then 30 years).
