Finally the stress is over

After a month.

The first board exam of life is always a memory. It started last month and finally it was over today, ending to all the stress that he had been carrying for last one month. This is the first exam in their life, that gives them the feelings of how to prepare patiently and present the best at the right time. They were doing that for school exams, but then the stress was missing. They were quite comfortable in giving those exams and prepared as well. But then when it comes to board exam, a whole different mindset comes automatically.

20230321_083722.jpg

Getting up early, putting up a discipline, reading all day, revising important pieces as much as possible throughout the year and then focusing only on the particular subject in the gap - it gives a different experience and one can learn only when he faces. Sometimes, we would find him roaming inside the house in midnight - he does not know the word stress, but he feels the pinch. Covid certainly spoiled all these kids to a great extent - once upon a time, they were all addicted to games and even not admitting that they were cheating us. In fact they were cheating themselves, its just that they were not realizing. Thank God, finally he realized and put up the hard work.

20230227_133304.jpg

The exam started on 27th Feb, and was over today. This year the board organized the exam a bit early, but I felt it was good for the students. Usually they schedule the exam to start in March and extend till April, but the heat waves would add extra stress - it easily crosses 40 degree centigrade in April. This year they had announced early that the exams will be in February giving the students the mindset to plan and prepare accordingly.

Did you notice anything in my Holi post ? If you did not notice, then he was missing in the pictures. The reason is that, the heat waves started when their exams started, but then there has been unexpected thunderstorms, and he caught up cold (which was manageable) and did not play colors as he had one exam just the day after. One more interesting commitment - he did not eat any preserved food outside during this entire period. The reason is that, once he had bowel issues after eating a sandwich from a reputed store. One of my doctor friend advised medicine and advised not to eat preserved food as its possible that the food may have developed bacteria because of several reasons. These are small commitments that one need to do in order to attain goals and this is their early experience. And most importantly he was away from Games for last several months - beyond expectation. Hopefully this post will remind him when he grows young.

20230321_133455.jpg

Today he was quite comfortable as his favorite subject was there - Math. But when the students got out, the scene was quite tense - the paper was tough. That made us a little nervous, but when he came out, he was cheerful - he did well.

20230321_133401.jpg

This entire time has been equally stressful for us, but we never set any high expectation. My rule of life is that prepare and present your best - and then God will help you.

Oh man the trials of parenthood!

We can take all of the hardships and tough lesson experiences as consequences of our parenting decisions because we care so much. I have to stop myself from worrying about that as I recall learning some things the hard way and benefiting from them long term. Not once did I think it was anything but my fault but I bet my parents were thinking the same thing.

I have to resign myself to focus more upon the strategies I have in general for the kids and less on the situational tactics to solve the issue of the moment for them.

Proud dad right there and we are happy for you!

I recall learning some things the hard way and benefiting from them long term.

That's always true, but we as Parent do more hand holding compared to our generation because of several reasons. Time has changed a lot, so does a lot of other parameters. But then we will try to give them our best.

Nowadays, parents are so concerned about their children that they have more stress than their children. Good wishes for a bright future!

Nowadays, parents are so concerned about their children that they have more stress than their children.

But then we are not alone to blame, isn't it ? The complexity of life has changed a lot over this generation. Covid did favor the wrong thing - the very mobile phone, laptops that were not meant to be given to them were in their hands. Thankfully he realized on his own - otherwise its very difficult to insist on kids now a days like our time.

Seeing this post of yours reminded me of my time when I was a student and I used to go to give board exams. You are right that board exams have a different pressure and by the way, we continue to have tests in college for the whole year, but when the board exams start coming, then we start getting a strange feeling and as soon as the exams are over, there is a sense of relief that only those who have cleared their board exams can feel. When our board exams were over, we were most happy that now we are free and now we can roam wherever we want without anyone stopping us. I pray that your result is also good and enjoy the holidays that you have now.

It's the hope of every father that their children does well, just imagine what he had to avoid or stay away from just so he could be able to write the exams comfortably without glitches. It's great to see that he finished the exams and quite confident of how the outcome will look like.

quite confident of how the outcome will look like.

That's the best part, at least he realized in time to prepare well. Else there is no way we can insist and make him prepare by heart.

Yes 100% agree with you on this, who can forget this ? I gave my first exams when i was in 5th class and the expeirence was great. AFter the exams you get some holidays and you feel very much relaxed utill or untless results came out :D if the result is good. You get gifts from your close relatives like aunts, uncles. but if the result is not good :D your father teaches you the lesson of the life :D And yes i have noticed you son was missing in the Holi post.

This is nice. Never knew they had another separate exam other than the one written in the school.
Were there any form of area of concentration or past questions to review to help them prepare for it?
Any I wish them all the best and a big congratulations in advance to him.

You are absolutely right because I still remember that day when I was very scared to take the first board exam. Because from one to the other, we give the exam inside the school and somewhere they keep doing it. I remember when we go to give papers, we used to carry books and we kept reading these important things till three minutes before the paper. If a person works hard and studies well then he will surely succeed. We will pray that your child also succeeds with good marks. Here in Pakistan, there are some parents who put a lot of pressure on their children, due to which the children cannot study because of the pressure. Sports are very important along with studies.

Putting pressure on kids may back fire, better they realize on their own and do the needful.

They were doing that for school exams, but then the stress was missing.

No amount of simulation or mock exam can produce the same level of the field as a real board exam in situ. Because our mind is so conditioned that the real exam environment produces a kind of nervousness, and anxiety, and kids become a part of that process. It's just an exam, it's also a litmus test for their state of mind on how to handle the pressure, and in the coming time, it's going to help a lot in different real-life situations, only through such an environment they grow and become mature.

This entire time has been equally stressful for us, but we never set any high expectation

That's actually good psychological conditioning to keep the threshold low. When Parents give such a sense of mental backup, it works tremendously well for the kids.

On a different note, I think, there is competition between parents more than students, and I think that needs to be addressed. Please don't take it personally, I have somehow felt that during my academic career.

Well, we are always happy with what they do, never compete. Just want them to realize that they have to prepare and work hard to achieve their goal - no shortcuts.

after a very stressful month of exams it must be great to be able to enjoy some time off. In addition, the discipline that is learned will surely help you to better prepare to face life later.

That´s some very impressive discipline for someone of such a young age. I was not a good student in my late teenage years, it was just one big party back then... But I calmed down at the university. Anyway, I hope your son passed the exam. I´m actually sure he did :)

Well the exam was just over yesterday, it will probably take a more than a month for the results to come out, so he is now free to enjoy for a month, before he starts his next mission. Some kids even use this time for career but given that he wants to relax a bit, I am fine with his approach. No forcing.

Preparation makes the difference! When we are truly prepared, especially to face a test of knowledge, the darkness dissipates before the great amount of light that radiates from our mind. Peace of mind is present because we are completely sure that everything will be fine. There may be thousands of inconveniences capable of annulling us, but a well-disciplined preparation will never succumb to any obstacle.

Congratulations dear @sanjeevm, you have done an excellent job!
