Moringa (Drumstick) leaves fry - a health delight

Moringa(Drumstick) is called The Tree of Life because of its unmatched health benefits

Moringa(Drumstick) is very known in every household in India because of its unmatched health benefits. But I did not knew about this recipe about a fry using its leaves, until someone suggested this to try out. We used to have a fry of different kind, taking out all leaves from the branch and then making a fry, but this form was completely new and so tasty. Usually the kids do not like to eat these vegan food, unless they are tasty and I think, this is a brilliant recipe for kids - the just loved it.

If you do not know about Moringa(Drumstick), then just do a google search. You will be surprised to know the health benefits it offers - Vitamins A,C,E, beta-carotene, iron, potassium, calcium, antioxidants...It's a must to have vegan food and more ever, it is fully organic, because, no one puts any supplements for the tree, it just grows on its own. And they also do not need lot of watering as well, so once it grows , you can enjoy all its byproduct. And not only that, now a days Moringa leaves powder is also available in market which is ready to consume. But if you have it nearby , its best to use it fresh.

The recipe is also not very hard. Almost similar to the Malabar spinach Fry, about which I shared this post some times back, only a little bit difference in ingredients. Soak 100 gm of rice in warm water for 1 hour, grind it with garlic cloves and mustard, add turmeric powder, hing (asafoetida), Gram flour and salt as per your taste and the batter is ready. Now take 2-3 branches and collectively put in the batter and fry on a pan. Use regular oil or mustard oil, if you get.

Does this look tasty and delicious ? The kids just waited for the next bunch of fry, and was asking for more and more. One thing to note, when you eat, then just hold those branches and then the leafy parts will automatically make their way 😀. We also combined with some Malabar spinach Fry and also the drumstick potato fry - one of my favorite as well.

Do you grow moringa @sanjeevm? I remember you are growing a beautiful rooftop garden. We planted moringa seeds years ago. But the moringa tree does not like our climate and the trees are not very big. We only get a small amount of leaves and I use them in salad. They are delicious. No wonder your children liked the fried moringa!

Actually they get bigger, almost grow 30 - 50 feet, so not possible to grow them in rooftop. But you can probably keep them, until they are 10 - 15 ft and eat the leaves. They are best grown in humid conditions.

Yes they get huge! But I know some people keep them trimmed like a hedge. It would mean eating a lot of fried moringa!!

I never knew before drumstick leaves can be eaten until now, coz in my family also no one talked about it. This is something new to me. I will definitely have to tell my parents about it. 😊

These actually look amazing as a tasty, but healthy snack. Thank you for some great ideas to spice up what could be a bland leaf, otherwise. The adults in my house are just as picky as the children. 😉

Interesting dish! We only normally add morninga leaves on soups, and recently because of its many nutritional benefits powedered morninga leaves are added to bread and a lot more. I've yet to try morninga fry. Maybe next time when I get to fish out some stalks from thr neighborm 😂🙈

Love it chef, moringa leaves are among my favorite things to cook with, but many people outside of India still aren't convinced of its wonders. I love putting the leaves in rasam and the drumsticks in sambar. I love the way you have prepared moringa leaf pakoras as well as the drumstick potato fry. These dishes would be very well-received in my family's house.

This version of drumstick potato fry is simple, but if you add a little mustard ( white or brown) paste in that, the taste is amazing 😀

I know moringa and I know drumsticks but I never knew these are the same. We use drumsticks to make sambhar, a south Indian delecacy.

Moringa I relate more to a good fragrant plant. I use moringa scented lotions and facewash.

I am going to research more about it. Thanks for the informations.

Ya, drumsticks are a must to have for sambhar, but the leaves are a health delight. The benefit that the leaves provide are unmatched, and this recipe was a cool discovery for us as well.

I will use the leaves the next time I prepare sambhar. I use curry leaves, I will replace them with these.

I think, that won't work, because the flavor that curry leaves give is different. Try this recipe, this is not very difficult.
