Chandi Bhandar - The house of silver ornaments

Silver Ornaments have been part of our life since long, but with time, they are getting more popular. There are two reasons - gold is no more safe to wear with the increasing number of snatch cases - so much so that, sometimes, it even costs the life. And silver ornament design is getting better with time, may be because of the increase in adoption. Today, we went to Chandi Bhandar - a nearby store that deals only with Silver ornaments. Polished Silver is known as Chandi in my language. Though we went to buy a gift as we have a party tonight, I was amazed with the varieties of collections in the store. They have a big store in another area, and this was started being a small place but it has grown a lot since last few years.

The top wheel or chakra is a symbolism for the famous Sun Temple at Konark, once considered the wonders of the world. And the second one is a replica of Lord Jagannath , Balabhadra and Subhadra. Imagine, how much craftsmanship has gone into the making of it.

We use silver plates, spoons, and other items for the first ceremony for a new born on the 21st day. They have got a wide variety in affordable range. Usually everything for that ceremony is sponsored by the wife's parents. So who would deny to have more.

Some nice chains above - quite fancy for every day use. And look at the gorgeous ones below - master pieces of their own kind. They are heavy as well and a bit costly but compared to gold, its chief and safer for sure.

And these are anklets, commonly known as Payal , an integral part of women’s adornment in our culture, having social as well as spiritual significance - the unique sound is meant to alert you that a woman is coming, so be ready to welcome her with respect. And the tinkling sound definitely draws your attention - either you get excited or nervous 😀. Now a days many wear these Payal made of gold, but ideally, gold is considered metal of the gods and should not be used in feet. And most importantly, they prevent the energy emitted from feet, vibrating it back to the body - thus preventing the energy release making the lady more powerful and insulated from negative energies. Such is our rich culture - I definitely love the sound.

Look at these bracelets. Designed similar to gold and polished to shine.

20211213_131414.jpg

This one below is gifted to new borne - though some offer gold, its safer to wear a silver one - the kid will at least not be endangered.

20211213_131450.jpg

Some men also wear these. There are heavy as well as hollow versions.

20211213_131459.jpg

And I felt, they have the pretty good collection of rings and traditional ear rings - suited for every occasion. At least will protect you when traveling, still fulfilling the lady's desire - snatchers now a day don't bother what happens to you. They come in full speed in a two wheeler and snatch it, if its gold. Very recently a woman fell down in one such incidence and became critical.

My daughter had a long wish to get a ring - grabbed the opportunity. Now look at these toe rings - the symbol of a married woman wore on the longest toe. Now a days, its difficult to recognize who is married - this helps a lot😃. And it's also believed that, the toe rings transfers energies from the earth to the body, empowering the women. I have even heard, they have some health benefits.

My wife got three of these - the good thing is that, if you buy from the same store , they exchange it returning 90% of the value in current market rate. So she exchanges them and brings some new designs and shining.

And we have got some nice bracelets for men as well. We get it also in GOLD, but now a days only a hard core criminal can afford to wear them. If you are a gentle man, then they will not hesitate to cut your palms and take them away, if its GOLD and you don't have security backing you. So silver is a better choice.

And here is the silver spoon - if you are not borne with, at least you can buy one and use. Usually we give this as a gift to new borne. And they have an amazing collection of other gift items - the reason we often go there.

Wow that's great. Those are wonderful ornament. It's really amazing that they exchange at 90% of the price. Because there are many shopkeepers who do not want to take back the goods once sold. This is a beautiful shops where there are many beautiful jewelry.

That's how they get many regular customers - they even call on special occasions, when they waive the making charges.

These are astonishing ornaments. I think I love the first one the most - it reminds me of a compass I drew for inktober two months ago.

It's very famous symbol of Chakra of Sun Temple and people in my place love it. I think, it sells a lot that is why, they have different sizes of it to afford every budget.

Okay, I hope it not that expensive cause over here, when people realise that things are in high demand, they tend to increase the price unnecessarily.

No, its always driven by global market price like gold. Everything anyways are based on supply and demand - if people will stop using GOLD, it will be cheaper than iron.

Okay, that's good unlike ours which always have unprecedented hike in price.

Silver is always considered auspicious. We always buy something made of silver on the eve of 'Dhanteras' and 'Akshay Tritiya' .

Those ornaments with awesome designs are really mind blowing specially the ornament with the design of lord jaganath ,subhadra and verbhadra.

Seems like Chandi Bhandar very well suited place for slecting silver ornaments. There are so many ornaments available from different designs. I very prefer to Ganesh god's statue. Currently gold usage really risky to our lives. With economical problems, increasing the robbery, may be our life will be end via their actions.

I very prefer to Ganesh god's statue.

So does everyone - the GOD who is worshiped on every occasion - takes away all the troubles.

Looking at the images alone make me yearn for all of it. They are so lovely and would look really good to be worn especially the anklets. I love anklets a lot as they add beauty to the feet especially the silver ones when the sun is shining. It gives it an amazing sparkle. It's true that gold is risky to be worn this days, it really costs life and I've witnessed such before so I had to take advice from there. Nice photos.

Silver was used a lot in ancient times by women to use it in jewelry but now it is less common. Jewelry is still used in India. Very beautiful jewelry is made. I like to wear silver rings

Seriously? Again, I had no idea! I thought Hinduist countries are peaceful and safe. But actually, even in our media, there often are quite shocking cases of rape from India. Is crime in general getting rampant over there?

Snatchers are something usual in this time, covid pushed many people to crime and pain, sadly gold is no longer safe, and have become a risk. Im glad that you have Silver at least, and that it helps both with energy in the soul aspect, and culture :D

I do love to read your post's on culture, i find it so different, why is it good to see a ring on a teenager, so they believe is marryed?

Well, if a lady is wearing the ring ( not toe ring) on the ring finger, then she is assumed to be married. The toe ring is only for married - so if you see someone wearing the toe ring, then you can recognize.

Oh I see, never seen toe rings in Venezuela, here people have no such tradition so it was totally diferent from what im used to, interesting cultural diference.

These are stunning. I always wonder how silver stores keep their wares from tarnishing. I really like silver though.

I think, it looses the sign if contacts with air, that must be the reason, they keep inside covers.
