Hiveph Contest 10/10: All Soul's Day and All Saint's Day Celebration

Hello everyone! Every 1st and 2nd day of November of each year is a day to remember the departed ones. It is said that we only pass this way but once, so they say. Are you sure there's no turning back?

There are superstitious beliefs that those who committed suicide or those who were murdered tend to have restless souls and that they cannot go to heaven. They stay in the purgatory still looking for justice of who their killers were or because it is a mortal sin when one takes his/her own life. This is the reason why there were incredible stories for centuries of the lost souls which were even depicted in our English Literature subjects in High School such as the Ghost of Macbeth and Ichabod Crane or The Sleepy Hollow. Lol!

The ghoulish face of pumpkins during Holloween originated in Ireland hence the Jack O' Lantern which was about the Story of Stingy Jack so the story goes. Pumpkins were widely cultivated and propagated then harvested just in time for the Halloween Celebration. The buyers are given the liberty to those their own pumpkins too. They would put them on their staircase or along the lawn and gardens with different images which relates to the different supernatural beliefs of each place and location.

Well, does this mean that you believe in ghosts and the ripper who takes away the soul to the unknown limbo or deliver them up there if they're pure by heart? Whatever the reason was, these stories were handed down from generation to generation. In fact, it's like the holiday season when all believers celebrate at this time of season.

Nevertheless, the old traditional beliefs had been forgotten (mostly) and was turned into something more lively despite the horrible costumes. The more morbid, the better! There were various costume parties especially the young ones. The Kids with their costumes enjoy the Trick or Treat games wherein they go from house to house, bringing along their baskets to claim their prices!

The photos above are two occasions during the Halloween. The two ladies was a photo of Antonia and her mom at SM Mall in Bacolod City which was sponsored by Jollibee. She was so excited with her little Pirate outfit.

The other photos were the friends of my grandson in Dumaguete City early this morning. My grandson was the one in 'devil's' attire with his fork.

A visit to the cemetery

Back to reality, my grandson and his mom went to the cemetery this afternoon when the guards signed off to make their respective preparations at home. My grandson cleaned the tomb of his beloved dadudz (daddy). The place was thick with grass and bushes because the cemetery was closed to public. The local government scheduled a day for each Barangay to visit/clean their loved one's final resting place for a limited time only.

For now, that's all they can do because the branches outside were so thick. He assured me that they will go back on Saturday to do the clearing.

I got flowers from my garden to offer to my dear departed ones. God knows how I missed them terribly. I really missed my kids but this is all I can do for now.
