Hi there! I was thinking of making a picture frame out of scrap papers. After months of this ongoing pandemic, it would be a relief for our kids to find other ways and means to at least relax their eyes from long hours of watching TVs and/or gadgets. My way of approach is to divert our time in Arts such as Paper Machet Matting.

I have chosen an old calendar to make long strips for the purpose. Our aim is to make a frame for the coming Holiday season.

I have the habit of keeping old calendars since I sometimes write notes on the memos below the calendar. I also use it for sewing patterns just in case I ran out of cutting papers.

I folded the pages into strips for at least 2 inches.

Antonia helped in folding the strips in four folds.

I used cassava paste to close the edges to harden the strip and for durability. I used an old construction board and cut it into a square, enough to make a frame. You can use a hard cardboard for this as well. A double-edged tape would be good on both ends.

Both ends should be stable to make it firm while you insert the strips alternately to form a mat. As you can see, it should be continuously done instead of cutting it. Well, it should be done before Christmas! Lol! The good thing is that you can set it aside when you're doing something then go back to what you've started and before you know it, it's already done without so much effort!
This is all for now guys, I hope this will give you another option on what to do with your old calendars and notebooks instead of throwing them away.
Thanking @build-it for this awesome community and thank you for your support!

Keep safe everyone!

Till then,

Yes, it would be a nice project for them. They can either paint it with gold dust or use a lacquer as finishing touches. The kids can use their water colors too.

That's some awesome way to repurpose something that would otherwise be thrown away or recycled! Great job with this one!

Ahh seeing that type of calendar makes me feel a bit nostalgic XD

Much better use of old calendars than binning them :)
