My NeedleworkMonday: My DIY Sewer's All-Purpose Vanity Pad and Pin Cushion by @needleworkmonday

Hi there! Have experienced being pricked by your needles and safety pins or your fingers being slashed by your blades somewhere, or couldn't find your pair of scissors, or have you forgotten where you placed your tape measure? Oh well, I've into that many times. There were times when I saw my puppy chewing my pins under my cutting table!

I've even experienced when my cross stitch needle fell on the floor when my youngest son stepped on it while he and my other kids were running around and playing hide and seek. It was so tragic when the needle went deep to his toes that it needed an immediate operastion or else the needle will travel with the blood and it will be hard to locate again. To think that he was only 3 yrs old I guess (He's now 31 yrs. old). It was an ordeal really and I put all the blame in me. It was a lesson learned.

But despite being careful, it cannot be avoided when I have to sew band uniforms with all the pins around that sometimes they fell so all I did was push it on my table cover so it won't fall. Then another accident happened when my helper cleared the table and got pricked! GOSH! It was my fault again!

So instead of using my pin cushion, I made a pad where I can place my stuffs and just pull it and place the needles and blades to avoid mishaps again.

(Photo: That's my old sewing pad. Antonia accidentally spilt the gold dust paint, with all the stuffs over it, that when I looked at it in the morning, they were sticking together! My bad.)

I used the cutouts from the pouch I made which I have already posted here. There were three small pieces left and they're all I need for my project. I removed the tube from the old pad for my new pad, a black lace from my old box (that was five years ago) and bias tape for the edging.

After joining the three pieces, I did the edging with the bias tape, followed by ruffled black lace. There's an extra oval cloth which is good for the pocket. I used the black lace for the edging in reverse position to prevent the monotony of ruffles.

I cut a wider bias tape for the tube. It is like a Styrofoam, and perfect for the pins and needles. It's soft and easy for the pins to push through.

See, I can place the little stuffs I need in one place including my tape measure inside the pocket!

I can place on my table at the other end where I can easily pull it.

And the last but not the least, I can hang it safely with my basic needs in sewing in one corner where I can easily locate it as the need arises.

This is all for now, I hope this idea will give a spark in your eyes. ^_^.

My thanks to @croshielle, @shanibeer, @muscara, @marblely and @neumannsalva. Thank you so much for this awesome community!

Keep safe everyone and God bless us all!

Till then,
