An App That Would Help Blind People is the One I Want To Make

With our world today, different types of applications has been made to provide for different user needs such as to be able to book rent your ride, book for for your hotel reservation or even buy an item online without getting to their store. Various apps also make it possible to communicate to people on the different side of the globe and to help you how to reach your location when traveling on unfamiliar roads but if there is an app that I would want to make, without the constraints for resources, the first idea that comes to my mind was an application that would help blind people and people with low visibility.

Why this App?

If you open Google or Apple Store, you can see thousands of different applications made for different purposes but many of this apps are made for the general audience but very few apps are made to provide support for people with disabilities such as people who can't see and communicate and being unable to do things that normal people can do not only makes life really hard but also alienates them and sometimes even causes them to face discrimination. So what my motivation here is to make the lives of people with eye disabilities even just a little bit easier with the application that I am making.

What Are the Features of The App?

• Free

Most apps has a form of monetization on their app either by having its full feature only accessible by paying for a premium or membership but given that I do not need to worry about the resources, I might as well make it free at least to the following features that I will talk about.

• Android and Apple compatibility

This one would be a very important feature for the app because with android and apple capability, I will be able to reach more people with eye disabilities. It would also be great if it does not eat a lot of memory and can be used to older OS versions so people does not need to spend large amount of money just to buy a high- end phone.

• Voice command navigation

A way for blind people to use their mobile phone more easily is if the app allows them to navigate their phone through the use of voice command like if they want to open the camera or listen to music. I would also like to make it so that it could have different language support so that whatever the race and language that person speaks, they can still use the app.

• Text- to- Speech and Speech- to- text feature

It would also be great if there is a speech- to- text and text-to- speech feature so that if the person want to chat or write a message to another person or want to know the content of the message that was sent to them.

• Reading through labels and text

Through the use of the app, a person can use a the camera of the phone to read through text and labels so that even if they are blind chores like buying stuff at malls can be also done by them. Perhaps, the app was advance enough to even read an entire book as there are very few entertainment available for blind people so at least we can add reading book to the things that they can do.

• Walking Stick with Sensor Connectivity

There was this project where people place a sensor on a walking stick to detect if there is an obstruction on the place that a person walks to. Though it was still at experimental stage, I could see that it to be a very big help to people with eye disabilities so what I want to add to it is the capability to connect it with the application and perhaps be able to log the walking path of the person then base on this log, the app will optimize the route that the person walks through to make it safer for them.

• GPS navigation

With GPS navigation, I believed that walking route optimization is possible but aside from that, the application also has a feature that will help them to travel on different locations. Perhaps, a guide that will tell them the location of bus and train stations since they do not have the capability to drive by themselves.

• SOS feature

Despite all the features that I said, at the end of the day blind people are still very vulnerable and were prone to a lot of dangers so an SOS feature is needed that would for example, send the coordinates of the person taken using the GPS to a family member to be able to locate and pick them.
