Why is it Getting A Lot Easier To Play Modern Now?

Hello, there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
I've been playing Splinterlands since 2021, making it almost six years now since I started playing the game, and through those years, I have seen how the game has changed for better or for worse (I'm leaning toward it becoming better). For the past two years, there have been a lot of updates to the game, such as new game formats and mechanics that make it almost unrecognizable from the game we had in 2021, but the core gameplay still underlies in the game. That said, it seems that for the past seasons, competing in ranked battle has become a lot easier, maybe the easiest it has become since player bots have been banned in Modern.
I do not know how long we will see Modern ranked like this, but I have some ideas why it is currently happening, which I want to share in this post.

Why is it Getting Easier to Play Modern Ranked Now?

For a couple of seasons now, I have been able to consistently place in the Champion leaderboard, and as it seems right now, I think that I will be on the leaderboard once again, given that I am already at Champion I, 9 days before the season ends. This is something you would not expect from someone who only uses fewer than 30 non-reward Modern cards when, 2 core sets ago, I was struggling even with a full max-level Chaos Legion Set. And I think the following were some of the reasons why.
- Card Scarcity
Compared to the Chaos Legion set, which was minted into wazoo, both the Rebellion and Conclave Arcana have far fewer mint populations, which may be good for keeping the price of the cards in the market. But when it comes to ranked battles, it has become a flaw because now, aside from a few players, most players will have a varying card collection that becomes a weakness that other players could exploit to win their battles. For example, aside from Fithe Bladestone, most of my Archons were of legendary rarity, so when Junior Varsity, Fallen Legends, or Little League were among the active rulesets, I would most likely surrender since I have no Archons to use in those situations. In other cases, some players will only have 3 Archons in their deck, so when a ruleset that those Archons are not available due to the element restrictions, their only option is to forfeit the battle.

- Multi-element Cards and Bloodlines
These were some of the recent mechanics that were added to the game that make playing more fun, because now with multi-element cards, you will be able to use these cards, so long as they share an element with your Archon; same with Bloodlines that allow cards to be summoned so long as they share the same Bloodline with your Archon, giving the cards more utility. But this also makes it so that players can still compete even with a bare-bones deck that is further amplified with the scarcity of the cards. Like why would you rent Risqruel Drath when you can instead have Lorkus that also has access to Fire units or Eternal Tofu that also has access to Earth units.

- Card Balancing is Almost Non-existent
Unlike Chaos Legion, I think that Rebellion has been a less balanced set, where it is quite prevalent how some Legendary Archons are better than the others and that there are no direct counters to them. But I think that the game balance has become really messed up when Conclave Arcana were introduced, particularly when the Archons Hanv and Dragonlord Mancer were added to the game. Like, you can probably make it to Champion even with your eyes closed, as long as you have these two archons and the necessary units to synergize with them, while anyone who does not have those archons will find it difficult to compete, such as me.
- Liquidity Bot Survival Testing
For the past two seasons, Survival Mode has been used as a testing ground for the liquidity bots as part of the plan to bring Brackets into Modern Format. Since that was the case, I think that it was possible that those Survival battle data are being used to tweak the difficulty of bots into Modern, maybe on a season basis if not weekly, but since it was still in the balancing stage, some of the liquidity bots still play dumb lineups, like, for some reason, some liquidity bots will use under-leveled cards and as a result, it became an easy win for the players.

Closing
And those were some of the reasons I can think of why Modern Ranked battles have been so easy to compete in these past seasons. As I said, I do not know until when this will stay like this, but for now, I will just grab the opportunity to win as many battles as I can.
Thank you, and see you on the next post!
