The spy in the monster city

She was there to learn about the monsters. She had been sent as a spy but did not want to reveal her identity and so went ahead and behaved like she was a novice. The problem was that there were people around who were really shrewd and it was as if they could smell things out. Even a bodily gesture triggered their suspicion and it was hard for her to keep a low profile.

The monsters were all locked up in their cages and were taken out only during battle. She tried to go inside the building where they were kept but it was heavily guarded which was expected, of course. The only way to get inside and study the monsters would be to dress as an insider and enter but this was not a Harry Potter world and she did not have the Poly Juice potion.

She tried to befriend the guard who was very rude. She tried to bribe him with a chocolate cake and she had baked two of it for Christmas but he opened his mouth and spat fire and she realised that he was not even a human but a semi monster who could singe an opponent. It was getting serious and she had less time to spare.

She decided to ask her landlord about cleaning jobs inside the building. She dressed as a maid and approached the caretaker who did not bother about enquiring about her credentials. He was a blunt fellow but she found that he could swallow people and things if he was instructed to and that made her afraid, but she went inside bravely.

The monsters were in the cages as she expected and she behaved as if she was cleaning the place by sweeping. The assistant caretaker was a young fellow and quite handsome. She looked at him for a long time without realising it and he smiled back. She blushed and continued to sweep cursing herself for being distracted. She had to find out the abilities of the monsters and so she slipped the card into the slot of the cage, copied the info and slipped it back into her dress without anyone noticing.

Her job done, she thanked the caretaker and assistant for the pay and went outside the building. She was almost shivering with excitement for not being caught by them. After her mission was accomplished, she took the bus and traveled to her master's house where she gave him the card with the loaded information.

He checked it and was so happy he gave her a raise and gifts. He also advised her to go for a vacation in case anyone followed her. She agreed and disguised herself and went on a tour to enjoy her free days, away from monsters and spy work.
