Bridge 110 Leicester Arm Grand Union Canal - Monomad Challenge
Hail to the Hive!
Taking a little walk to the local supermarket today and I passed under this beautiful bit of engineering, bridge 110 on the Leicester Arm of the Grand Union Canal.
If you're gonna build em strong then build them beautiful I say and back in the day they certainly made them well and certainly made them beautiful.
The metalwork on this brute is lovely. The rivets the curves and its all round structural aesthetic makes it more than just a functional piece of engineering, it's a piece of art in my eyes.
I've walked under this bridge hundreds of times as I grew up close to here and this was a route I would regularly walk to and from the city centre as it was a shorter route to my house than walking the streets.
I've always loved these bridges from when I was a child and I guess that's why I developed a fascination with things like this and why I have done many posts on #hive with bridges in them, mainly canal bridges.
I decided in this post to try and capture as many of the angles as possible to show off it's many lovely assets.
And for those monomaniacs out there you can see why feats of engineering such as this have an appeal as in black and white they really shine.
I have been meaning to single this one out for special attention for a while and today as I was walking back my old brain emembered and I stopped and spent a good 30 mins getting the angles and waiting for people to pass by.
I got the usual weird looks from people wondering why I was photographing it but hey what do they know.
Maybe they should look away from their phones for a few minutes to see what is actually around them, they may appreciate things a little more.
Hive certainly creates that outlet for expression and for us to flex those creative muscles and I love it for that. I've always got an eye out for a likely capture and of course...

Hello dear friend @scubahead good afternoon
What beautiful shots you have captured. I really like old structures that belong to the golden age of ancient blacksmithing
Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful collection.
