Bunched up at the Boatyard - Monomad Challenge
Hail to the Hive!
We are back in familiar territory. Back at the boatyard where we had badger the Narrowboats new engine installed. We like it here and the people that live and work here. It's a bit like our 2nd home on the water.
As I am trying to stay on top of the maintenance of the new engine, so as not to have any repeats of the breakdowns we suffered before, i brought her back to have a little service and check over. And to stock up on coal also.
It has so far been mild this winter but I doubt that will last so I am going to stock up a bit and get ahead of the game while we are here. Plus Iprefer to spend my money where I like the folks. Hate giving my cash to places that neither appreciate you or care about you.
It's a nice little spot here overlooking the countryside with the boats moored directly on the canal side.
It does feel a little odd being tied up alongside other boats but luckily we have met the owner of the boat we are tied up to before on our travels. We've actually moored next to her before and passed her at locks many months back so it's a little like meeting an old friend.
It's not something i'd like to do for very long though as we like to be out in the countryside on our own and not have any immediate neighbours. We like it like that. Feels more relaxed.
We will be back here again at some point in the future as I trust them to do work on the boat here. They always look after me and it usually costs me a lot less than I thought it would.
Great place for monochrome photos also !

lovely work here..... bet its ace living on the water!!
It's great but it can be quite a challenge too. The pros outweigh the cons so far. We'd be told winter was awful but so far we are coping ( it has been mild though ) so all looking well. Thinking we need a bigger boat though so we are thinking of trading badger in and adding a bit of $ to get a bigger one. Need to get Hiving big time to finance that though. ( cracks knuckles begins typing pose 😂)
yeah, i imagine you miss a few home comforts, and getting around is slow unless you also have other means of transport close..
my wedding videographer lived on a narrowboat in sheffield during the summer.. went on boat to view the video - this was 10+ years ago and looked awesome to be honest..
I had a bit of a photoshoot on the foss dyke -> brayford water in lincoln earlier this year... sailing that boat was a challenge until you got used to it.
cheers

Moving back to the UK back in March was made all the more fun doing it this way. Nice that you got to get a feel for it. It really is a pretty cool way to live
Those narrow boats are indeed something else. I first saw them on the series Peaky Blinders, then in person while cycling alongside the canals during my stay in the UK. Loved them right away.
its a unique way of living also. 2000miles of floating campsite criss crossing the whole country. We are bloody loving it
Yeeees, I'm addicted to this guy: CruisingTheCut

He's the godfather of narrowboat vloggers haha. Here's our little channel
Super! I've just discovered your blog; gonna follow your channel
thanks @mrprofessor!
I couldn't agree more, we prefer to spend our money at local bakers, butchers and grocers. We are a bit old-fashioned but my word do we get better quality produce in return!
whenever we can thats what I prefer to do too. The guys that work on my boat are constantly busy and do no advertising. Says it all
Good old "word of mouth"
Was the same at my old dive shop in the Philippines. We were always booked solid and did no advertising. Was great as I could cherry pick the clientele
Thumbs up. Thanks for sharing, captain.

The monochrome pics really are stunning, I thought for a minute when I read the title that you were mooring up for the winter!
