Looking Back, Planning Forward

Hail to the Hive!

Time is quickly passing by and our time in Jamaica grows short. This means that after a brief exposure to the UK winter ( noooo brrrrr noooo) we will be off to Egypt and slightly warmer climes. Yessss!

Now I am looking forward to this trip for a few reasons.I Kind of have unfinished business with Egypt. Returning after almost 30 years. I didn't really get to see the Pyramids properly last time which I need to rectify and I wasn't a certified diver at that time either, this was back in 1993 so I am feeling good about the upcoming diving also. This was something I always regretted in the years that followed when I became an avid diver and then an Instructor. So many of my guests, friends and dive buddies had dived the Red Sea and even though I was there for many months I never did anything more than a bit of snorkeling. Now after 30 years I get to rectify this. Feels long overdue.

Now as much as the Pyramids have been there for thousands of years and I have only been away for 30 I am pretty sure there will be changes.

This is what Dahab in the Sinai looked like 30 years ago when I used to pass through every 2 weeks. I took these pre digital camera era when every snap had to count as you were always worried about how much film you had.

It really was a pokey little back backer village in the desert on the sea front. If I remember rightly there was only one or 2 dive shops at that time which I know has definitely changed.

As for the Pyramids I've made sure it's kind of the priority at the beginning of the trip. We are booked in to a place 600m away so as much of a tourist zoo as I know it will be we can pick and choose times and also have a view of them from where we are staying. Fingers crossed we can make the best of the logistics and make the most of our proximity.

It will be interesting to see if the views in anyway live up to these promo shots on the site.

I'll be sure to post a few ( more than a few ) when we get there.

Either way breakfast with a view of the Pyramids can't be too shabby can it?

and it will be my birthday too which will make it that little bit more special.

Feels good to be excited about about it all, which is why I am browsing through photos both old, of mine , and of the booking website also. It brings with it those feelings you get when you look at maps of the world and dream of travel and adventure. Only about three wekks to go , yikes!

30 yeats ago I only saw them at night. When I left Cairo to head back to the Sinai I thought ' Oh I'll be back next month or so' ended up leaving Sinai for Eritrea and Ethopia and never managed to find my way back. Until Now!!
