Magnet Fishing - Christmas Present- Wednesday Walk
Hail to the Hive!
Now I don’t really celebrate Christmas but while we were guests of @diveratt over the festive period he purchased me a shiny little and very useful gift.
A Magnet
And you can see by my little cheeky happy face that I was most pleased as I actually need one. From time to time things get dropped overboard when you live on a boat as we do. Tools and mooring pins, windlasses( lock keys) and this will give me a way of retrieving them.
And other peoples also! As it ain’t just me losing stuff, it happens to everyone.
I do love a shiny present don’t you?
So as I had some time to myself today I decided to go for a walk along the tow path, take the magnet and chuck it in and see if I find anything.
So off a tootled along the muddy tow path ( appropriate footwear is essential this time of year) left Badger the Narrowboat behind and took a stroll magnet in hand.
It was a lovely evening and the sun was on its way down but there was enough time to wander along. I wanted to choose spots that I knew were frequently used as moorings.
Finding a likely spot That I have seen many boats at before I prepared the magnet ready to throw in.
And in she went ( I say she but I have no clue as to the gender of my magnet).
Splosh. Drag. Haul out. Throw in.
Splosh. And repeat. You do get some odd looks from folks walking by. I will need to get used to that.
After quite some time and lots of screws and flecks of metal later I had two things of any interest. And only one thing of any use.
A slightly rusty wrench. I have realised it fits our cooking gas cylinder connector so with a little clean this will be a handy back up in case I lose our primary.
And what I think is a huge nail used for the old wooden barges many many years ago. Don’t really know why I kept it but it is kinda cool in a historical rusty, nerdy kind of way.
So a successful walk. I cam, I saw, I sploshed and found something.
Cheers @diveratt maybe I’ll find some coins or a watch next time. You never know…..

Sure looks like a beautiful evening and spot for a walk
That’s a handy gift for you living on the boat and it worked well and as you say you never know when you may need it if you drop something overboard
Or what you may find trying it out
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

You might find a few windlasses. I can remember a woman asking me what I was doing once. After I explained, she still said but how do the fish stick to the magnet? Oh dear... 😆
Haha you should have said due to there being so much lead in the water supply these days haha she would probably have repeated it to someone else hehe
Oh I wish I had now! Her embarrassment was toe curling. 🙂
I've been thinking seriously about getting one of those big magnets to do some magnet fishing, just to see what happens.
I’ve managed to get it stuck on the armco on the side of the canal. Couldn’t get it off and had to use the boat to pull it off haha
