Many Faces but NO Mask (except scuba mask)

Hail to the Hive!

Well I can’t deny that over the years I have taken up many different roles in many different places encountering many different people. But one thing I am proud of ( if that’s the right word) is I have pretty much always been true to myself and never acted a role to suit others or to attain something or get anywhere. What I’m trying to say is I’m unashamedly me, no act.

At a very young age, while working in pubs and clubs as a bartender, I quickly realised that the more I was able to ‘ just be me’ and the less of an act I had to put on then the less mentally exhausted I would be at the end of a working shift. I would push the boundaries a little with people to see what I could get away with and found it was just a matter of knowing when to and when not to say certain things. More of a natural filter than an act. Whereas I would watch my colleagues full on adopt a ‘persona’ to suit the situation. I was never comfortable being fake and misleading like that. Not at all.

Now have I made mistakes? Yes. Have I upset people? Yes. Have I offended people? Yes, and sometimes happily so if they were being an ass.

I think this is why personally I have always gravitated towards, grounded, straightforward, no nonsense people. Even if our ideologies differ, if I know where I stand with someone I can get on with them no matter what the differences of opinion ( within reason). Find some solid middle ground. In the process you end up learning a thing or two as you’ve kept your blinkers off and are receptive to information rather than making judgments so soon.

I mean I am far from being a religious person but have no issue with people who choose to believe in whatever their chosen belief system is. In reality the root of all of them is basically the same and is essentially a health and safety manual for human behavior really. So I can happily discuss all many of things with my friends who do have those beliefs. It’s all good, just don’t be telling me not to drink beer and eat bacon and we will get along fine 😉.

I’ve even been known to share my personal space with Manchester United fans and on the odd occasion Pittsburgh Steelers fans, now if that doesn’t show how accepting I am of peoples warped beliefs then I don’t know what does 🤣

More and more I see people afraid of breaking from the norm and feeling that they have to dress, speak and be like the majority and putting on an act to ‘fit in’ and be accepted . be yourself, have your say, dress and follow the things your gut tells you to. Just be you. In the long run the friendships, relationships and experiences both good and bad will be so much more rewarding. I’m starting to ramble now. I think what I’m getting at is honesty. Maybe this works for me better than it would others I don’t know. But I think we could all use a little more grounded , honesty.

Ok now I’ve got that off my chest this morning I’m going to crack on with more coffee and Japanese study.

Peace out peeps!

Yeah, I am unashamedly me all the time as well, life is far easier that way. I am not in the masks of any kind. Nice to see the many different shades of you in the photos @scubahead, looking pretty serious with that water pistol I might add lol xx

I used to use it to enforce the rules of the dive shop and dispense justice!

I'd much rather people be straightforward even if they're an axxhole, at least you know where you stand with them. You can still be tactful but honest and straight forward

100%. I sometimes wonder how much energy people expend putting on a front all the time.

Cool scuba coo, I like the way you can articulate your words . Rock on & cheers to beer. Like the rock star hair in the 1st pict, that would not scare Alice. Looks a little like his.

Thanks @thekittygirl i remember years ago thinking about making a collage out of all the ID card’s I’d accumulated over the years as its amazing how different you can appear in them all considering it’s you. I may still do that at some point

I respect those that stay true to themselves yet are respectful towards others. It takes humility and a strong mind to be able to do so. Props to you. 😊
