Peeking out at the Bay/ St Ives- Monomad Challenge
Hail to the Hive!
I am still trawling through the shots of our recent trip to Cornwall and am enjoying a spot monochromatic indulgence again as I reminisce about the glorious imagery it provided.
Not only the obvious scenes as you would expect of historic coastal fishing towns set into beautiful coastlines, but also the little nooks and crannies that lend a slightly different outlook / view / perspective on a place.
I personally couldn’t resist getting underneath the arches to the dock, that are inaccessible at high tide, and having a good poke around to see what there was to see.
And it certainly didn’t disappoint. I had of cours already filled my belly with beer and cornish pasties so was sufficiently fueled to go and explore and indulge in one of my favorite pass times, black and white shot hunting.
I have done shots like these letterbox looking ones before from behind bird watching hides and the like and I quite enjoy the frame within a frame concept. I think it works splendidly well and especially in monochrome.
Peeking out at the bay through rock, wood and metal at the ocean perfect material to work with.
And a lot of fun messing about with angles and such. You do get some odd glances from tourists that see you in the dark corners poking about taking photos but what do they know. I know what I’m looking for, and it’s worth it.
I know from seeing others post on #hive that I am not alone in this type of search for imagery and it is very rewarding to have an outlet to share, compare and get feedback. I do enjoy the engagement and have made contacts on here through black and white photography I definitely would not have made otherwise, which is pretty cool too.
The obvious shots are not always the ones that capture the imagination I find.
And it’s kinda fun hunting for imagery, keeps the creative eye fed and scratches that creative itch.
Cos don’t we all….

Cheers @jerrytsuseer . Nice to see you again! I hope you are keeping well my friend
At my age it is becoming increasingly difficult to do that. 2 Weeks ago, I was standing on my porch talking to a worker here to install a Mini Split (AC unit)
I took one step down, then went the rest of the nearly 4 ft height down and took the impact fully on my right knee.
Skint my knee, but it drove my femur right up into my right (artificial) hip. xrays show no damage, but it set me back a couple years in the pain dept.
Still and all, I survive yet again, despite being on a madman's hit list (family)
It just never ends
I hope YOU are doing well.
Holy cow, I saw this one and I stood up clapping from my chair!... What a photo my friend!... You're the "monochromatic boss" today!!!... BRAVO!!!!

I am monomanicaly focused on the Alien clouds in that 1st photo, capture on scuba capture on.
They do look a bit ominous eh!
Congratulations for these incredible captures, they are images with a lot of strength. My favorite is the third one where a person appears going through the arch.
Thank @paholamarin , much appreciated. The dude in the pic you like is also a hiver its @diveratt . He had invited both myself and @millycf1976 down there for a week and it was amazing
@scubahead It was a pleasure to get you to come down to Cornwall
Was superb mate, loved it came back recharged…..and loaded with booze
I love these shots! The arches are beautiful and they always offer a sense of mystery to the scene, but also those kind of grooves are incredible, I really enjoyed your pictures. I believe they are pretty original!
Thank you so much @belug for that. Getting nice feedback for creating images is really rewarding and genuinely makes me smile. You made my day :). I think i may even be blushing ☺️
