Beautiful people of the Hive open mic community, it's another lovely week 🥳

This week brought with it a theme that promotes and celebrates the unity in our diversity. Traditional music is and always will be a thing as long as humans exist, because our traditions and immediate environment first influence our principles and core values before life experiences exert further changes in us. I'd have loved to make an entry of my traditional music featuring my father (he adores his music), but time and circumstances didn't permit. Perhaps I'll get to do that sometime.

Usually, making videos stresses me out, especially new songs within a limited time frame as I had with this particular entry, but I totally enjoyed the process of making this entry. I found a lot of things amusing about my choice of music, which I'll share in this post. Firstly, I made this entry this morning when, at dawn, I didn't know what to sing yet. But, thanks to our mutual friend, Google, she came through. One phrase: "African traditional music," and I got my answer.

Drawn by the title, Malaika is a song originally written by a Tanzanian named Adam Salim for his love. It was first recorded by Fadhili Williams, but the music became popular when Miriam Makeba recorded it as well. To no surprise, her name pops up first when you make a search for the song on the internet, and my cover was made after her version. Popular people have since made covers and versions of the song.

This song in English means "Angel, I love you angel. I would marry you, angel. I am defeated by the bride price that I don't have." I found this really amusing. Most African cultures accept payment of a bride price when two people are to get married. The groom's family pays the bride's according to a stipulated standard. As amusing as this song is, that was exactly the situation in which Adam Salim found himself. His sweetheart was eventually given away to a richer man, sadly.

Esta canción en inglés significa "Angel, I love you angel. Me casaría contigo, ángel. I am defeated by the bride price that I don't have " (Me ha hecho mucha gracia).

The second thing I found amusing about this song is the fact that in this part of the world where I am, this song has a different adaptation in English. Here we sing the same tune but with these lyrics: **"My lifetime, I'll give God my lifetime. When I give God my lifetime, He'll take care of me. He'll never ever let me down; I'll give God my lifetime." ** A highly thoughtful person gave us the beauty of this tune with a much different meaning, but even I personally, love that adaptation. Imagining the process makes me laugh out loud though; I can imagine hearing Malaika and substituting my lifetime. They sure sound alike.

I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Thanks for making it this far!

There's no beautiful community without you guys; keep being amazing ❤.

Greetings beautiful @sekani, I am very happy to be here! Blessings.

I find it very interesting what they do in African culture! My husband would have had to pay a lot for me then hahahaha.

Very nice interpretation, I really relaxed a lot! I imagined myself on the beach drinking a nice Coke hahahaha!

Hope to see your participation with your father soon! I hope all is well.

Best regards!

Thanks for the mention, I like the theme setting, my network seems glitchy, I'll come back to check it.

PS: you followed the traditional setting to the core, I was looking at the efforts involved in getting this done and I realized you were intentional about it, I don't know the song though, but this is a lovely presentation. Well-done. It's awesome as always.
