AVATAR CHRONICLES: The Legacy Of Yangchen

After my review of the Dawn of Yangchen which I posted 10 days ago, I immediately dove straight into the next book of the series, finishing it in two days flat!

Still, due to some off-hive issued, I've had no time to recollect my thoughts and properly review the book. At least until now.

The Legend Of Yangchen

Plot.

After the betrayal of Kavik and the sabotage of Henshe's plot, Yangchen finds herself in control of the city of Bin'er as a substitute Zongdu, which is not part of her ways as an Avatar, nor as her doctrine as an airbender.
Despite the small win, her enemies are still rallying about.
A member of the weapon Unamity broke out, and couldn't have found a worse time as the annual meeting of the 3 great nations was about to be held.
Yangchen finds herself in the midst of political and actual warfare once again. Having to find and subdue the free terror weapon, find who he works for and still do such giant tasks while keeping her people from harm and her city from tumbling, all under the watchful paranoid eye of the earth king.

This sequel brings up a new flourish of events that unfolds just months after the battle at the last book.
We watch as Yangchen tries her best to juggle her new responsibilities, which was simply added to the long list of her current responsibilities.
It was even more strenuous after the betrayal of Kavik and the suspicions she had to throw over everyone else after hearing the revelation of the spies from the White lotus. Just goes to show that popularity and power goes two ways.

In this story, Yangchen took on a more political role, as she was no longer a travelling advisor to the cities but was now the head of a city of her own. This was unheard of in the lines of Airbenders Avatars and was shunned in the notion of airbending itself.
Air nomads shouldn't be dealing with material things such as money yet here was the Avatar, the holiest airbender at least meant to be controlling and running a country, whose purpose was to make more money to fill the earth kings coffers.
The author, Y.C. Lee, who I had so much great words for after reading his first book did an excellent job of showing the dilemma Yangchen faced in this book.
Even one who wouldn't know shit about running a city (like me) would understand the things a failing city like Bin Er needed and how hard it was to provide such things.

The Characters, new and old had their stories looked into more properly here too.
At such it was no longer just Yangchen and Kavik. Other characters back stories like Akuudan, Kalyaan, Jujinta and others.
These back stories really helped us understand the characters, their actions and gave the story even greater depth.

The best part was the ending. The last battle. There's always that feeling when you know the main character would win, well in this case, it was so hopeless that we weren't sure if she would win.
Nor where we sure how she would win. Well the storytelling in the last battle was splendidly written down.

Have to give Y. C. Yes credit again...

When one is reading, he can clearly see, follow through and understand all that is happening.
Creating a great moving picture in his head.
It's official, I'm in love with his writing!!

I loved this book and like it's predecessor, I'm giving it a stunning 10 stars 🤩
