I buzzed around his head, waiting for him to try to slap me again. A playful game of catch between Mosquito and a human. Normally he would waste no time trying to catch me but now he paid me no mind.
He looked dead, staring at his phone in confusion and disbelief.
I buzzed straight past his ear again and he didn't react.
I looked at what got his attention so transfixed that he doesn't care about me and our nightly game.

"I don't want to talk to you."

Although written, the words bounced off the walls in the silent night.
I looked at the contact name and shuddered, this isn't someone that's meant to say this, it isn't someone that's allowed to say it.
In my 3 weeks in the room he had chatted, called, talked and sometimes slept talked about her.
With shaky hands, he typed back;

"Why."

No response.

Why Omoka?!!

He asked again, Still no response.
His breathing hitched. In this heat, it was strange as he wasn't sweating.
"She must be joking." He said out loud.
"I mean, okay she is mad, but still.... She can't keep this up."
I looked at him pitifully. Although I hoped, it was clear that his self comfort wasn't working.

He tried calling her, watching in dismay as the ringing tone rang and ended. He tried again and again.
Coming online to try a WhatsApp call, same outcome but different ringing tone.
She came online, and his face brightened up. Sadly he couldn't tell if his messages had been read or not as her chat ticks didn't shine blue like the others.
Nevertheless he tried the WhatsApp call again.
Praying out loud that she picks, and I find myself hoping too. Sadly she didn't.
It finally sunk in him how serious this was and he in turn sank into a wave of depression.
"Fuck!!!!" He screamed as he threw his pillow to the wall, narrowly missing me watching him breakdown.
"Fuck why.." he exclaimed again, breathing heavily and eyes red, although no tears spilled.

Ping🔔

A message alert rang on his phone. He rushed at it and I flew to a better angle to see it too.
Alas it was but another girl, asking him wassup.
Grace, his close friend who apparently had great or rather bad timing.
He left the chat and checked on Omoke again.
Still online, still no reply.

Now I know you didn't just leave me to read.

He sighed audibly and was close to going offline then he stopped.
"I'm sorry. I'm cool, what about you?" He replied calmly.
Wearing a facade, that would fool anyone that didn't know him.
Unluckily for him, she knew him.
"Okay nice try." She replied.
"I know you're not alright, common love." She urged.
"Love huh?...." He typed and said out loud.
"What is love?" He asked
His friend sent a voice note, he clicked it and it was a voice not of just laughing.
She later typed;

Why are you now asking about love?
I thought you didn't believe in it.

Well I didn't, or I don't, I just, I don't know.

He replied confused.

Just nevermind. I'm going to sleep.

Love is a shackle on a person. Once bound it's hard to let go, once broken it's painful to go free, for you realize life was more fulfilling with the shackle intact.
At least that's what I read in a book😂.

She replied back.

Thanks, Goodnight.

He turned off his phone and sat looking up in the dark night.

"So is this the loss of love?" He asked out loud.
"Did I really love her?" He asked again.
"Is she truly gone?"
I found myself asking that again.

I hung on the wall, solemnly looking at him, an hour, 2 hours passed and he hadn't moved. I was about to fly off, thinking he had slept when he sat up suddenly.
"Fuck I can't sleep!!" He screamed into the night.

He opened his Whatsapp and thought about what to do.
She was online, taking a deep breath, he held the voice note button and started talking.

Hey...

He began;

I know I haven't really been the best guy today, but please answer me.
I don't think I can stay without talking to you. Please..
I say NO!! to distance.

He laughed a nervous laugh while I wondered how he could try to joke in such a situation.

Okay forgive me. Please, I just can't. I don't feel normal. Omoke, please don't do this.
I love you!

He let the microphone button go and threw the phone on the bed.
It bounced, hit me on the wall and landed down with me on it.
The screen cracked and black started flowing into it.
He shouted in dismay, rushing to the phone and running to his other phone in the drawers.
In my last living moments, before the screen became perfectly black.
I looked at her chat, under her name I saw it, a little sign of hope for his sorry heart.

Oh dear, it caught the fly at the wrong moment. At least the fly got to see her finally reply.
I hope it was positive too.

Very imaginative and throughly entertaining.

The personification of the mosquito adds just he right note to the tale because the protagonist is acting in a totally irritating manner, but he can’t seem to stop himself—much like a mosquito!

Such a pity that the clever little sympathetic mosquito had to die, though.

I can just imagine his obsessiveness and focus on the phone - it's really realistic. Unrequited love is painful! I'm not sure why the other person died at the end though? If they did? I'm a little confused, sorry!

For me, mosquito is such kind of creature which make me angry everyday. Sometimes I wish to finish all the mosquitoes from the world. And you are writing about mosquito 😅.

For a fly to have experienced all of this and put it into writing means the fly must be from another world.

I know how it feels to be snubbed by the one you love and most times I asked why guys feel more pressured than females when snubbed.

It's not a good feeling and I really wish to know how it ended but the aboki has intentionally taken out our transmitter.

Hmmm.. what a sweet heartbreaking story for a human while the mosquito who could have stung him was feeling pitiful for him. What a story indeed.
I just hope Omoke retract her decision of ending the relationship. He loves her and I could see hope in the typing.... I thought it would continue.
