The Most Beautiful Coin Not...

During my research for coins of my African series, I came across a whole lot of lovely and beautiful silver coins.
The big, the small, oddly shaped, complex designs and just something plain and simple.
And of course in my eyes, all these coins were beautiful, glorious pieces of treasure.
Yet when I checked Google for "The most beautiful silver coin", what I got was something I didn't ever expect.

George V 25 Cents 1918

Now I know that one's taste in beauty could be entirely different from another. The beautifulness of a thing could be easily increased or reduced due to minor or major characteristics of that person or thing.
Hence I can somewhat see how some odd people would think this to be one of the most beautiful of the world.

YET

I'd have to ask...
untitled.gif

How is it one of the most beautiful?

It's everything a collector would want. It's big, shiny has a unique gleam due to the multiple elements used in making it.
Yet when they talk about beauty... I feel this coin doesn't come close..

At the Obverse we have a bust of King George wearing a crown facing left. This makes this coin extra special. A male royalty being scarce in the coin population because of the long life of Queen Elizabeth. Although now that there's been a change of monarchs, we'll get to be seeing a new face in our newer coins.

There's a writing in Latin..

GEORGIVS V DEI GRATIA REX ET INDIA IMPERATOR

When translated it says..

George V, King and Emperor of India by the grace of God.

At the reverse there's simply the face value, the inscription of Canada with two maple branches and a crown.

No excitement or claims made at all :D

What made me excited about this coin, despite the claims of it being the most beautiful... (Crazy talk)
Is the way the coin looks.
It looks oxidized a little, maybe because of the silver and copper.

Well I was never great in chemistry so I'll wonder about it for now.
Despite of my outburst, this is a great coin, and a rare one too.
Been around since 1918 so that's already a century gone...
Goes without saying that it's worth a tasty sum..

A truly great prize for a collector.
A lovely gift?.. Yes. but not the most beautiful one.
I say we should leave the beautiful coins for the folks of Niue 😍

Indeed..
Twas truly a shock when I saw it listed as one of the most beautiful.
I've seen one just like it... And well, it is unique..
But not beautiful..

I think George V's best is on the 1935 $1 Canada dollar, his silver anniversary commemorative. My father left me an MS 60+ Cameo specimen. I will be sharing that come July.
