Travelling?

It's been ages since I last wrote a post here!

Suddenly feeling like one of those Nigerians weh Japa to foreign communities and didn't look back😭

Anyways, I decided to just come take a look at my mother community by 3AM in the morning if any prompt would sweet my eye and give me sudden inspiration, then I saw one.

The @hive-naija weekly prompt that said...

What are your travel habits like?

My first thought was..
Travel?..
Travel keh?
For this economy una dey travel?

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that those who travel now, without it being business oriented or based on an urgent family/ health matter is a rich man who needs to share to the general public their ways of making money.

Let's not forget the risk of insecurity for those who do travel, especially by road.

• Kidnapping
• Bad roads
• Heat and Dust too attack your lungs..
• Traffic jams
• Police forceful roadside tax

Haew..

Travelling is not something that happens anymore ooo.
It's nothing more than a frivolity left to the rich while we normal folks look on as they post pictures of new destinations with envy and want😭😭😂

Yet, while still reading the prompts, I do remember when things were better.
Yes, the good ol' days, when every Christmas period meant the annual exodus of the family to our grandparents house in the villages.
Those days when you would hold Ten Thousand Naira and be comfortable of your going and coming transport fare with some money to buy roadside snacks.
Those were happier times... Peaceful times...

I've always been in love with long distance journeys though.
Everything greater than 5 hour drives and 12,000 miles was a green light for me!
A journey should be a journey, maybe a quest of some kind, not something that with the mildest inconvenience you can just up and go home because home is 6 blocks away.
The great thing about long distance journeys are the sights you see along the way.
These experiences are what make travelling so much fun.
Of course when it comes to long distance journeys, you're not going with a burlap sack or anything.

You didn't run away from home😂

I'm talking boxes, bags, baskets, you have to make sure everything and anything you may need is provided.
This was a must when we still went to my grandparents house in my kiddy years.
My Ma's favorite words of warning.

"I'm not buying anything there ooo. If you forget your sponge, you won't bathe for the 3 weeks spent there."

And the woman doesn't make empty threats😂
As always, the memories of a long distance journey, filled with family and friends stay with one for as long as he/she lives.
Now that my two grandparents are late and coupled with the economy, I don't have any need nor finance for interstate travel anytime soon, the memories of the travels I was privileged to have are still as fresh as though they were made yesterday. 💕✨
