Collection Highlights - 1943 Mercury Dime - From My Mothers Side

I have another small piece of the collection that I am here doing for my other side. I only got three Mercury silver dimes, and two of them were in pretty rough shape so I decided not to take a photo of them. The best one of the lot was his 1943 that I thought was really well aged overall.

Not surprising to see one survive in this condition, there were over 191 million silver times made, and they were still made out of the nice sound money of 90% silver and 10% cover. I like the Mercury dime design although I think I prefer a barber series a bit more overall it's still a very beautiful tonight that is far superior to most of the coinage of today.

When trying to compare these to the photo grade I think that both the outburst and the reverse would pull in somewhere around the au 50 for and about uncirculated coins. Legally there is a little wear on the columns on the back as well as some of the details in the air on the front have been worn down but otherwise it's in great shape. I think that there are still a large number of coins in this grade or much higher

Obverse

I like the fact that this is another one of our coins that has a depiction of a fictional person and not an ex-political figure. I'm always a fan of when we're celebrating ideas and ideals. These were all minted in Philadelphia without any mint marks, but overall there are sharp looking out first.

Reverse

The reverse is a great design for how much detail they managed to put on here. The center piece with its full columns and ax head not to mention the wreaths and leaves all on the back of a very small 17.9 mm diameter coin is pretty impressive. There leaves a lot of details there to help you understand what condition your coin is in. It becomes much easier sometimes to compare these when the very clean examples have such stunning detail versus some of the other designs where I personally find it much harder to get a good feel.

I know it's just a small piece of silver but given what the silver price is done lately and how crazy the markets have been I figured it was nice to get back and show a little bit of shiny from the collection. I think I'm getting close to having shown most of the good pieces and I'll have to figure out how to highlight some of the more common bulk stuff like the wheat and Indian Head cents.
