Collection Highlights - Rarities Mint Liberty Round

Collection Highlights -

I am back with another vintage silver round from rarities mint. You canSee My Prior Piece Here
This round is quite a bit different than the prior round, it clearly is marked with the words Rarities mint to make it clear it is not an official Silver eagle given how similar the imagery is, and the fact that the United States of America is on the reverse of the round.

Rarities mint is a bit different than a lot of the other mints I have covered so far. Rarities Mint was in operations for more than a decade. It operated out of Anaheim California from 1983 through 1995. While it had numerous rounds that were trade units, replicas, commemoratives and Liberty focused they were best known for being the manufacturer of rounds for the Disney company and Warner Brothers. It started their relationship with those companies in 1987 and continued until the company was dissolved in 1995.

Too bad for @dfinney I don't have any Disney rounds. If I have seen them, I did not buy them. Going forward I will make sure to snag them!

This information was found after a bit of searching at both apmex info and
agroundworld.com.

Obverse

This is another example of a walking liberty styled round. Unfortunately my pictures did not turn out too well and seemed to be slightly bleached with a bit of reflection from the Sun. I tried to take better photos but my phone was not cooperating. I like this front design I think it has that classic walking Liberty style and it is clearly identified mint the only thing missing is a year

Reverse

The reverse of this round has a lot that I like. It has the Liberty Bell which reminds me of the back of the Franklin half dollars. In addition to the Liberty Bell it has a great depiction of an eagle which makes it very similar to the American Silver eagle. The part that I can't get over is the fact that they have stamped United States of America on the reverse, to me this almost seems a step too far where things might be confused as this being in ASE. The rest is just the typical 9995 silver and one troy ounce markings.

Very thick Round

image.png

Take a look at how chunky this round is. I stacked it up with a bunch of other random when I was rounds and while you can see the other five very slightly in their thickness because some are 38 versus 39 mm this rarities mint is just ridiculous. Does have a bit of I don't know if you would call it a rolled edge, but on both sides of the round as soon as you get past the lip the rest of the round is concave. Either way I do believe this is the thickest 1 oz silver round that I have that is not a hand poor or specialty round that the size or shape is very unique.

The design looks a bit rough on this one but I would still add one to my stack ifbit crossed my path for a reasonable price 🤣

I agree this one is a bit ugly
Not my favorite, but certainly interesting and unique compared to typical rounds. !PIZZA

A different pose but I still like the original walking liberty slightly better.

Totally agree, I think the best side is the reverse. Love the liberty bell and eagle combo. !PIZZA

Such cool rounds, too bad they are out of business. I didn't realize they made Disney stuff, I'll have to keep my eyes open for some.

Right - sounds like they had some bad business plans, making the minimum buys so large with the Disney stuff most LCS couldn't make it work. Sure that stuff carries a massive premium - still super popular. !PIZZA
