Tomorrow

You can live a lifetime obsessed with your fears.

Some people carry their anger on themselves and end up relegating their existence to a melting pot of sadness and bewilderment.

Others blend in with people, releasing joy and euphoria into every relationship. In the darkness of their rooms, at the end of the day that anger comes back to peep out again, leaving them alone with their ghosts in an obsessive circle that, as in a time loop, brings them back to be alone, damn lonely every time they stop to think about their condition.

It's the horizon of a generation, it's the peak of humanity.

We sink together with our identity behind a thousand nicknames.

We give voice to ourselves under false names.

We pretend to be eternally on even terms with the world. We wear our favourite masks when we are alone, and reluctantly dive into the world like fish who know they are lost in a sea too big.

We express the opinions of others.

We emerge through the sentences of others.

We feel free only by wearing chains.

We are tattooed inside indelible images of what we could have been, what we wanted to be.

We take solace in the eager search for an enemy we don't have the courage to fight.

We feel great in the face of those who are smaller and too small in front of ourselves.

We live in a world without barriers but full of walls.

We would rather jump over them than tear them down.

We are happy in front of the TV, yet another wall that stands between us and the world.

We make random relationships that nothing will give us back. We only believe in ourselves when it helps us not to believe in others.

Life flows and panta rei but we remain motionless in the face of ephemeral joys and false goals.

Sometimes the euphoria takes us by surprise and then catapults us down like the most experienced parachutist, falling into our comfort zone made of designer sheets, chic perfumes and cell phone covers bought at the mall.

And that's when we sink into sadness, that dark sadness of not feeling part of anything.

We find a foothold in our affections unless we discover that we are not enough for them, not that we have given enough for them.

It's a nihilism of smiles and handshakes. You're born, you don't live and then you die.

You are born, you play a thousand characters and then you die like in the most banal of films that pretend to be existential and end up empty like a box of chocolates that contains nothing anymore.

Were we born like this or have we become like this?

We're shot at random in the chaos of life. We'd like to be in control, we think we are in control but we took a skid that took us off every road.

So all it takes is one tweet to make us dream some like or retweet to finally feel like someone.

Someone who for others will be just a name, for us will never be anyone.

We were silvery alive as Daniele Silvestri would say, now we are a cloud of smoke closed in a room. Our mind is clouded by ourselves and no one will help us to thin out if not ourselves, if not the strength we have inside and that we cannot find.

Tomorrow is another day and it will be the same as today.

Until we wake up.

Diamo voce a noi stessi sotto falso nome.

Ci sentiamo liberi solo indossando catene.

Siamo nati cosi o ci siamo diventati?
