My journey into the teaching profession as been a wonderful experience. My mom is a teacher and my dad has also taught before. I actually love teaching right from childhood. I think my mom inspired me. She teaches at the primary level because she is more tolerating than I am. I am a little firm when it comes to handling children.
My dream is to lecture which is teaching at the university level. I have been teaching secondary school students now for over six years both in the public and private sector. I will be sharing my experience with students, fellow teachers, and parents.

My experience with my learners have been like the two side of a coin. I could remember when I was strict with them just to make them to be serious with their studies they ganged up against me and when it was time for evaluation they all rated me below average saying I was not teaching them as I ought to. I had no witness to proof otherwise and that almost discouraged me from teaching as a profession. I could see that they planned to frustrate me. So, I decided to be their friend and it was another story entirely. They no longer take my classes serious neither do they do their home work and they disrespect me. Growing on the job, I had to go for trainings and seminars where I was exposed to different styles of teaching and how to handle students behavior. I wish I had more knowledge of students behavior before embarking on teaching as a profession.

My experience with other colleagues has been wonderful. Humans will always be humans, they celebrate you at your front and nail you at your back. One thing that is peculiar about public service is the seniority syndrome. Once someone is a day older than you at the job, you must respect them even when you are older than them. I never knew this beforehand, so I was tagged "rude" because I confronted a senior colleague for doing something in a wrong way. I hear the words "don't you know I am a senior officer" many times. The senior ones leave their duties to junior staffs and seat idle just to show seniority. I am someone determined to succeed. So, most times I careless about what people say and just do what is right.

The parents sometimes are not really supportive, some of them are doing their best while some tries to bribe their way out. They want their children to succeed without hard work.
Finally,I wish I was more prepared for the job, I took teaching profession to be something very easy to do but going into it I have learnt a lot and I survived. I have always love my job and I still do. From my little experience as a teacher, you need to develop yourself, be prepared for changes and be determined to succeed.

One really needs to be prepared for anything in life. Teaching is a very nice profession, most people run from it because of the little value most countries give to teacher. But honestly, I love that profession, it's mother of all other professions

Students can be very funny, one needs to be smart in handling them, you just have to be in between, you shouldn't be too nice and you shouldn't be too harsh. You need to create a balance, if not depending on only one side of the coin will affect both you and the students.

Your view is actually right, being in the middle as been one thing that helped me cope with my learners.
I wish there could be a review on the value attached to teaching soon. Teachers should be treated as valuable gems.

That is the best way to survive with students. And I also pray that teaching profession would be looked upon someday and treated as it should
