My Creative Sunday:- An Excursion to a Farmstead in Oke-Ila

avatar
(Edited)

We closed quite early from church today, so I was at home watching a movie when some of my colleagues came by my house and told me of an excursion they wanted to embark on, to
visit the parent of one of us, who lives in a Farmstead in Oke-Ila area of Ekiti State, since I wasn't engaged with anything of noted I decided to go along with them.

We took off around 11:30am,the journey was smooth, unlike most road in Nigeria, these place was different, even the untarred road were graded evenly unlike most villages road, we got there few minutes after one. More like we came too early because no tangible preparation was on ground yet to entertain us on arrival. We were served bananas, oranges and tangerine as appetizer while we make some food for ourselves.

Most of the elderly were not around, I got to know that today seems to coincide with their monthly Famers meeting, so we the visitors seems to be the one that will cater for ourselves o.

I serve as the team PRO and Secretary at the same time, keeping note of fascinating things around, taking pictures of of the surroundings so I can have some gist for those we left back at our based.

First we cooked some Cocoyam along with Plantain, then both were pounded together, this was to give the Cocoyam a smoothen feel which the Cocoyam couldn't have if it were pounded alone, the pounded yam was kept in a cooler to keep it warm.

Next course of action was to prepare a stew that will grease the way of the pounded Cocoyam. Melon, Onions and Locust beans were grounded, Vegetables was sliced and steamed, a Bush Rat from Timilehin daddy's trap was smoked. And to cap it up, we were given a local fowl to add as meat too, so the chicken was sorted out too. When all was done, the table was set.

Unlike our house in the city where we serve, eat on individuals plate and at the dinning table. Here botg the food and soup was served in a common plate for all of us to eat from. Oh the taste was natural, because unlike in town where we live, everything here was fresh from the farm, no preservatives or frozen food.

We ate to our satisfaction, rested Abit before working around the Hamlet. I saw Palm Kernel Where it is been spread out to dry. And for the first time I came across Cocoa, the cocoa used in making the tea we drink, where it is been sun-dry. I had a wonderful time working around and getting to see nature in it's natural state, undisturbed by man interference like it is in the cities.

We were given some farm produce like Cocoyam, Plantains, Orange, Palm Oil among other things to take home as we bade them goodbye with promises to be back before the year runs out.

This is my piece for #Creative-Sunday. Thanks for coming by and taking the time to read through my blog, do have a fruitful week ahead.

I like that you called it an excursion. There’s no way a farm can be that fun. At least not the ones I’ve been to.😅

You can say that, this was fun, been that we explore the area and get to know preservative measure out in place by the dweller to keep there produce intact and also eat fresh from farm unlike in the cities where you have food that has been harvested for weeks before been sold to us

Ah! Judging by all these images, I'm sure you had fun. I once visited a place like this when I travelled with my friend to his village, although they are not as advanced, is surely is a fun and peaceful place.

Seeing how you all dug into the food shows that it was really delicious.

Thanks for sharing.
