BOOKREVIEW: THINK AND GROW RICH by Napoleon Hill

This world is more competitive than it looks, as we journey through life, we sometimes will look over our shoulders, measure ourselves against others and we will always find someone who is doing better.

There is always someone who has more money, a better house, has a better body and shape, is better looking and probably living a life we would want for ourselves.

In reality we miss the fact that our true battle is with ourselves, we can only become what we think we can become.

It’s all in your head, you think they’re doing better because you’re not focused on yourself, you’re not thinking you can be better and your desire is not as much.

I used to think like that, I used to live like that until I met Napoleon Hill. I’ll get off my high horse now, I didn’t meet him in person but I think I did when I read his book “Think And Grow Rich”

From first glance you’d think it’s a book on how to make a lot of money, but as I went through it’s pages I realized all these steps can be applied to my life in general.

I’ll summarize it in one sentence, whatever it is you want to become in this life, you start by thinking it. Your imagination is the preview of life’s coming attractions

You want get good grades, get a better job, get a degree, become a professional, start a business, raise a family, whatever you want to do, you first think it, then you become it.

How do you move from thinking to becoming?

You begin with desire!

It’s all about who wants it more, how bad do you desire that career, or the financial status. This desire is not wishful thinking, desire here means an intense passion, wanting something so fiercely that it motivates you to take action.

With that fierce desire to take action, Napoleon Hill says the next step is to have faith. “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

You have to believe in yourself, you need to have faith that what you want to set out to achieve is very possible, and if anyone, you can do it. Have faith that your desire can come through.

This was the moment reading the book really struck me, I knew I had a strong desire for success but as I went through these pages on faith I realized I had wallowed in self doubt, but no more!

Napoleon Hill in his book also places a lot of emphasis on training your subconscious mind. Read out your plan and goals at least twice daily, stand in front of a mirror and say your affirmations. It may not look like much but on the long run you’ll notice you’re constantly believing.

The next thing you need is specialized knowledge. You have desire, you believe you can achieve, next you need the “how”

You have to niche down, you can’t say you want to be a lawyer or doctor and you don’t go the law or medical school, even when you do you still need to specialize on the type of lawyer or doctor you want to be.

“It has been said that man can create anything which he can imagine.”

With am open and creative imagination, you need detailed and organized planning. This is not a book that talks about keeping it all in your head, you need step by step plans that aligns with you imagination and desire.

You have to decide that you want to follow that plan, Napoleon Hill says “The world has the habit of making room for the man whose words and actions show that he knows where he is going.”

Taking example from men whom have hit success in the last century, he says they have something in common, which is persistence. That desire to keep going even in difficult times, the willingness to persist for as long as it takes will set you aside from failures.

Napoleon Hill in hi book has simply steps for you, by focusing on a passionate desire, having faith on yourself , training the subconscious mind to believe in success, and developing a detailed plan, anyone can grow rich and be successful.
