With the little idea I have about crypto currency I would say it takes more than studying the market to hold a coin.
To hold a coin for a long time you need to study the coin, calculation, and also patience.

Study the coin:
This simply means before holding any crypto it is expected that you should have taken time to study the coin to see if that coin is worth investing on for a long time. Studying a coin also brings about calculation. When you do a proper study then you know if you are to hold such coin for a long time or you are in for a short time.

Calculation:
This should be properly done to enable you know what type of coin you are about to invest in and also to know if it is worth investing a huge sum of money or not.

Patience:
A person who tends to earn a lot in the crypto world needs to be very patient especially when there is the need to hold for a long time.
Patience starts from all aspect. You need to be patient while studying that coin and also be patient while calculating.

Holding a coin for a long time has helped many crypto users and for some it has been a regret due to the fall in the price.
