A King's Unfulfilled Desire | Haga Castle Ruins
It has been almost 18 years since I settled in Sweden. When I came to Sweden, in the early days, my wife took me on a tour to the tourist attractions of Stockholm. It is important to mention here that my wife @nazneen-ansari was born in Stockholm. There is a very famous park near our residence, called HagaParken.
To share about the ruin I have to tell you this long background story. Hope I'm not contradicting the rules of this community.
Sweden's Most Popular Recreation Areas
Haga Park is one of Sweden's most popular recreation areas and is a part of the Royal National City Park.
Haga Park is known for its huge grassy area, semi-open grazing, and forested parts.
The Echo Temple was built in 1790 as an outdoor summer dining hall for royalty. Today it is an outdoor museum that is a very popular location for wedding photo sessions.
I myself have filmed here many times. Two years ago we broadcasted the Live performance of Maria Bhardwaj's dance troupe from the same temple.
When my younger brother @rosecane came to Sweden, we came to Hagaparken with him several times and we also recorded a video song here which he already mentioned in his blog. https://peakd.com/hive-177682/@rosecane/music-video-my-modeling-experience
Castle Ruins
Before getting into Hive I was sharing my activities on social media with my friends, so one of my wife's colleagues, seeing our interest, asked, have you guys been to Slottgrund in HagaParken? And when my wife mentioned it to me, I was not ready to believe that such a thing existed in the park. Because when our kids were little, we used to visit this park almost every other weekend. It was not possible that we missed any place in this park.
After searching on the internet, it was found that the remains of the unfinished palace are located in this park. That information was enough for my curiosity.
We reached this park with my family, in summer it is almost impossible to get a space in this big park.
On the way to the Echo Temple, a small path leads to the left side and the same path takes us to Haga Slottgrund. There was no place to step in the park and on the opposite side it was deserted.
I was surprised that despite coming to Hagaparken for so long, how could we missed this side of the park.
Gustav III's grand plan
Haga castle basement or ruins are the remains of Gustav III's grand plan for Stora Haga castle in Hagaparken. The construction did not reach more than the foundations before the king was murdered in March 1792 and construction stopped. Today, only the castle's basement walls remain.
As usual once again Saif and I went down to inspect the ruins.
