Electromagnet
*Material Required
Cotton covered copper wire, iron nail, two celled battery, electric switch, sticky tape, thread iron fillings or paper pins.
*Producer

• Cute a small piece of cotton covered wire and connect its one end with negative terminal of the battery using sticky tape and other end with one point of the electric switch.
• Wind a long piece of cotton covered copper wire around an iron nail forming a coil.
• Connect one end of the coil with positive terminal of the battery and its other end with the second point of electric switch.
• Suspend the coil with the help of a thread tied to its centre as shown in the figure.

• Turn the switch on and bring some paper pins near one end of the nail. Paper pins will stick to the nail. This shows that the nail has become a magnet.
• Now turn the switch off. The paper pins will detach and fall down.
