Memoir Monday: Doing things differently

Greetings dear Hiveans! Another interesting question by @ericvancewalton to refresh your good old days differently. Actually, this part is so interesting helping us to recollect our memories.

*This week’s Memoir Monday question:

If you had the chance to do it all over, what would you do differently?

Once a waste land , now a beautiful resort

This title reminds me of my yesteryears. I have had gifted childhood days, school days, college days and better days until today.... We lived in Armed Force quarters, among a number of families and friends from East ro West and North to South part of India. Those can be called the golden days in my life. May be, it was because we interacted with peoples from different culture.

Old times with golden memories

The importance of living in such place is felt today, rather than those days.
Infact, that was the learning school where I learnt the importance of relationship and friendship. Most of all when Unity in diversity was taught in classrooms, we experienced it practically.

But during my school days in 80's we had so many restrictions from parents, teachers, neighborhoods etc. We were over protected by parents, an open talk was not always welcome, we were
asked to be just listeners. To a certain aspect, this part had a negative impact in me, as I did not have the strength to retaliate when someone raises voice against me. Even today, I have that fear.

So, if given a chance to do something differently, I would like to stick on to my views without fear. This being my first change.

A sweet shop of yesteryears still in existence, with new outlook

My next aspect is - what I did with fear in the yesteryears, I would like to repeat it, by enjoying each moment, if ever I had a chance to do something all over. By fear I meant, me and friends going late to classes and the teachers asking us to get a reason letter from parent for being late, bunking or cutting classes with friends with utmost fear but only once a while, not always. To mention, these were beautiful moments in life.

As my father was working for the ground Defence, he was a thorough disciplinarian and time being his key factor. He tried to impose, quiet a bit of it at home, where I and my siblings used to avoid and end up getting a scream from my father. Those days were our school days, too young to understand the meaning of time management.

The same progressed in most of the neighborhoods, as that was the time when education was given prime importance rather than other preference and amusements. Any arguments would end up resulting in "Go study". In 80's and 90's parents in my hometown felt only studies make a man perfect rather than other achievements like sports, music Art etc.

So if given a chance, I would like to show that studies is only a part of getting job and not growing up mentally.

Honestly, I don't blame the parents and teachers for this because their only motto was to get into a secured job for us, because all were hard working parents with a meagre income, trying hard to meet the ends while giving their children the best.

Lastly, I have felt most parents never lived for them, but just for their children.
So given a chance, I would like to show them the world, outside their little imagination and would like to give them happiness which they forgot, while bringing us up.

Today, I am proud to confess that most of these 80's friends are well settled in different parts of the world.

The photos captured are my own and my feeble memories, I put here in writing. Thanks for your visit and also for your valuable time.
