Roadside Attractions 🐴 Moose Monday Number 87
When you see cars pulled over in Alaska its usually for wildlife! Keep your camera handy dandy, you just never know!
This guy was about two feet away from my window, could of almost touched him! These are Caribou, there is a small herd that lives on the Kenai Peninsula. Sometimes you might see them in a few different places.
Usually see them about this distance, not so close up that the camera is taking macro shots! lol
We are starting to have hints of autumn showing up, a few yellow leaves here and there, the fire weed has mostly topped out with its flaming flowers and there is more of a nip in the air.
Oops
Check out the prongs on the back of his hooves! He is thinking of crossing the road, it might take awhile!
The lady in the red car needed a few photos so he posed awhile longer.
A closer close up of the first two photos.
These photos were done on my phone as I didn't have time to grab the Nikon! Like they say, the best camera is whats in your hands at the time!

That’s a big one! But he looks skinny!
Thank you ❤ @kaminchan! Not skinny nor fat, just right! :-)
Okay! That’s probably why I let my cats eat too much! Thinking they look thin at first! Then suddenly they just expand around their waists!lol
Love the antlers! Better than the caribou butt pictures haha So cool I have Alaska envy
Thank you ❤ @steven-patrick! I was snapping pics and
he moved lol Just had to include that partial!
Wanna trade states? :-)
I have some real old caribou antlers my grandfather gave me
they are huge and cool!
What a great rack on the caribou. Love his high heels too. 😊
Thank you ❤ @redheadpei! I have a really old rack my
grandfather gave me, they are big! Yeah how about them
high heels lol, I think it helps them on the ice! :-)
The most amazing shots. I never saw one of these wonderful animals up close like this. Those antlers! That face! After looking at these pictures I had to read up on caribou. A few facts you probably know (From the FDA site: Fun Facts about Reindeer and Caribou) :
Other fun facts (you probably know already) can be found at the same site.
Great blog, @shasta
Thank you so much ❤ @agmoore! I didn't know that
about the nose hairs, tho I was looking at that hairy
nose in the photos! lol
I wonder if it helps them with eating those lichens?
I have some very old caribou antlers my grandfather
gave me years ago! :-)
Hi @shasta, according to the site I consulted (see the link above), Their specialized nose helps to warm incoming cold air before it enters their lungs
😆
Good evening ❤ @agmoore! I need to go look at that link you
gave me, so much going on I forgot!
Also sounds like I need a fur cover for my nose this winter! lol
