Welcome to my 18th #BrawlReport as part of the @hive.pizza PIZZA 2 The Deep Dish guild!

Once again I'm holding down Fray #3, the Untamed novice fray which has all level 1 monster limits.

Congratulations to @nata86 for taking 1st place with 7 wins and 1 loss! @amaillo-m came in 2nd place with 6 wins and was in a very popular fray with a total of 9 battles fought. I finished tied for 3rd place with 5 wins and 3 losses (15 points).

We finished in 5th place in this brawl with a total of 40 wins and 40 losses for 120 points. Goat Gang is a #12 ranked guild, so we had some tough competition this time. On a point basis, we were only 7 out of 4th and 12 points from 3rd. For our efforts, we each received 415 merits and the guild earned 9 crowns.

My Battles

mybattles.jpg

Battle 1 - Win

Aim True: Melee and Ranged attacks always hit their target.
Up Close and Personal: Only monsters with melee attack may be used in battles.

I was excited to see the requirements for this battle and knew I wanted to pair my Yodin summoner with the Chimney Wallstop gladiator. I also placed Magnor up front as the tank and to help protect Chimney while he builds his power up.

Another good strategy when enjoying the Blast ability is monsters that have the sneak, snipe, or opportunity ability as they will hit up to 3 different monsters on each attack. In this case, my back two monsters were equipped with opportunity.

Battle 2 - Win

Noxious Fumes: All monsters start the battle poisoned.
Up Close and Personal: Only monsters with melee attack may be used in battles.

I usually deploy the Llama/Kron combo for poison battles as Kron is great at regenerating and overcoming the poison each round. Unfortunately, I was not able to use earth splinter cards in this battle. We were restricted to Water, Life, and Dragon and I chose Life.

My opponent and I both used Shieldbearer and Elvin Defender, but they chose to place Shieldbearer in the second position instead of the first position. I'm not sure if this contributed to my win, but it may have. I decided to use the Elvin Defender as my last monster and hope that his higher health points would outlast the poison and leave me with the last monster standing.

Battle 3 - Loss

Spreading Fury: All monsters have the enrage ability.
Close Range: Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles.

I continue to struggle with these lower mana battles and this one was no exception. I used Yodin, but did not deploy any ranged monsters for some reason and those would have each received a +1 range power. I did use a gladiator card, Orella Abadon, hoping to build up its power somewhat by the time it got to the front.

Unfortunately, my opponent had an even better idea and used up most of their mana on Chimney Wallstop and picked a lower mana summoner to afford it. Our first card was the same, but the Chimney card taking the place of two of mine plus some mana points from the summoner led to their victory. Perhaps using these high-mana summoners are just not a good idea for me to use on these low-mana battles.

Battle 4 - Win

Close Range: Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles.
Explosive Weaponry: All monsters have the blast ability.

This battle is a great test of the Llama/Kron combo against the new gladiator cards. In this case, my opponent used a Gorth in the tank position. Because I had only one card on the field, it limited the amount of damage the blast ability could do to me as well as eliminate the potential bloodlust power building. Combine that with Kron's regeneration ability and I was able to stay standing.

Battle 5 - Loss

Earthquake: Non-flying monsters take 2 melee damage at the end of each round.
Healed Out: All healing abilities are removed from monsters and summoners.

I previewed this battle in a post yesterday. I wanted to put Chimney Wallstop to the test while paired with the Yodin summoner. This combination provides a pretty powerful tank with +1 health and the blast ability. Because of the battle's Earthquake buff, I expected the Bloodlust ability to help keep him alive, since it appears to ignore the Healed Out restriction on healing abilities.

Chimney was the last monster to strike, but the first hit knocked out the shield of their tank and dealt 3 damage to the second monster. In round two, Chimney MISSED his attack. That miss cost me the battle as it would have killed the first and second monsters and boosted his health and attack to easily take out the final range attack card. This was a really disappointing outcome but it appears it was completely tied to an unlucky miss.

Battle 6 - Loss

Equal Opportunity: All monsters have the opportunity ability.
Lost Legendaries: Legendary monsters may not be used in battles.

This opponent is a member of the Goat Gang, ranked #12. The lack of Legendaries for this battle meant I certainly had to use a gladiator card, unfortunately my opponent used a Dragon summoner that knocked my melee attack down by 1, rendering my gladiator a bit less destructive.

My strategy was magic attack combined with shields on the Lobstradamus.

Misses were again a problem for me in this battle. Combined with the fact that my gladiator card was not the one dealing the death blow to my opponent's cards so it wasn't gaining any power. Whereas my opponent was making all their death blows with the gladiator card so it kept getting boosted.

Battle 7 - Win

Opponent Fled.

Battle 8 - Win

Weak Magic: Magic attacks hit armor before reducing health.
Earthquake: Non-flying monsters take 2 melee damage at the end of each round.

With the relatively high mana of 34, I decided to deploy the Yodin/Magnor/Chimney combo here and threw in a ranged and melee w/ opportunity in the back to use up the remaining mana.

My opponent also used the Chimney Wallstop card as the second monster, with a Living Lava up front. I benefitted from an early miss from their Chimney monster in round one that probably led to my victory here. I suppose that means the misses somewhat evened out for me in this brawl.

Final Thoughts

I continue to work on Gladiator card strategy and hope to continue improving that to the point that I don't need to spend a bunch of credits on renting Untamed cards for these brawls. As you saw, the Chimney Wallstop card is very effective in nearly every Fire splinter battle, especially when paired with a Yodin summoner.

At the conclusion of this brawl I have 1700 merits, so I should have enough for a new gladius case after our next brawl. My current goal is to have a couple of Gladiators in each splinter so that I can try to have one in each battle.

Right now I have a gladiator for each Splinter, but I can't always use them depending on the specific battle rules. Out of the 32 total Gladiator cards, I have acquired only 8 so far.

1Up Project

If you haven't seen the news yet, check out the new 1UP project. This looks like a great new gaming project for Play2Earn blockchain games like Splinterlands! I seem to be getting around 100 OneUp tokens on each of these posts, so the earnings will add up over time!

What is the @hive.pizza #BrawlReport?

@kennysgaminglife has spearheaded the #BrawlReport project as a way to get PIZZA guild members more engaged in the @Splinterlands community. Here's what he had to say:

Starting with the brawl that just ended, I've invited/asked members of the #HivePizza guild to publish a #BrawlReport, breaking down their highs & lows, where they need help, questions they have, strategies they love, and so on. The idea is to help us all reflect a bit, learn a bit, share a bit, earn a bit, and connect a bit :-)
Any other guilds interested in publishing a #BrawlReport, either as individuals, or one for the whole guild, I'm happy to send some curation love your way!
