Shauner's 25th Splinterlands Brawl Report - PIZZA 2 The Deep Dish Guild - Jan. 9, 2022

Happy New Year and welcome to my 25th #BrawlReport as part of the @hive.pizza PIZZA 2 The Deep Dish guild! This is the first brawl of 2022.

I'm playing in Fray #10 this time, which is Silver league untamed cards only. This is a tough fray for someone like me without a lot of higher level cards, but we always seem to need this slot filled in our guild.

Congratulations to @higherlow for going undefeated with six wins! I only had three battles in my fray and I won two of them, which I consider a great performance with my level 1 rented cards.

PIZZA 2 The Deep Dish Results

We improved again and finished in 2nd place with 38 wins and 19 losses. This is our best performance in months! For our efforts we received 18 crowns and 831 merits each!

My Battles

Battle 1 - Loss

Close Range: Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles.

This was a 99 mana battle and I really enjoy those so I can unleash the big cards. Unfortunately, in a Silver league fray, that means my opponents often have higher level cards compared to my level 1 rentals.

In this case, my opponent used level 3, 4, and 5 cards against me. Despite my legendary Yodin summoner and using the Magnor/Chimney combo on the front line, I was overtaken by the higher level common and rare cards of my opponent.

Battle 2 - Win

Super Sneak: All melee attack monsters have the sneak ability.
Spreading Fury: All monsters have the enrage ability.

This is probably the best battle I have ever had and will be hard to top in the future. This is a rather high mana of 50 so I was able to play some of my bigger cards. My strategy was to use the Yodin/Magnor/Chimney combo up front as it has proven very effective and then take advantage of the Super Sneak ability by placing War Chaang in the last position since it has the Retaliate ability.

Since every melee monster will be attacking the last position, the War Chaang will be able to retaliate AND have the benefit of the blast ability from Yodin, which means damage will also land on the cards to either side of the attacker. This means each time War Chaang gets hit, it could do damage to three of my opponents. In addition, the Enrage ability boosts its stats after getting hit.

While Magnor was taken out pretty quickly, the War Chaang took out my opponent with incredible efficiency. This was a huge win as my opponent has a deck with 5 million CP, worth almost a half million dollars.

Battle 3 - Win

Odd Ones Out: Only monsters with odd mana costs may be used in battles.

I would normally pair the Llama with Kron, but decided to try it out with War Chaang after the great performance in the last brawl.

The saving grace for me in this battle is that my opponent was using all level 1 basic cards and didn't seem to have rented any special Untamed cards. This was a lucky win from a player who was not really prepared for a Silver league brawl.

Final Thoughts

Battle #2 is going to go down as my best victory ever. It seems I may be battling in the Silver league Untamed frays for a while and there will be big ups and downs so this is probably going to be one of the better performances I have.
