Battle Mage Secrets: Some OP Units Are Lost At Sea

Gradient Welcome to the Team Greeting Instagram Post (1).png

Introduction

I'm here to share my Battle Mage Secrets blog post for the Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. The theme featured this week is Lost Legendaries. In this ruleset, legendary units are banned. I was always curious why only legendary units were unplayable but we could still use legendary summoners. If anybody knows this, please do let me know in the comments below.

My Strategy & Tips For Lost Legendaries

I don't think there's any super amazing strategy for Lost Legendaries. In this ruleset, you want to look for strong common, rare and epic units. For example, a strong comment unit would be like Diemonshark, Arkemis the Bear, Pelacor Conjuer etc. Some solid rare units would be like Cursed Windeku, Goblin Psychic and Mycelic Slipspawn. Some examples of strong epic units would be like Nerissa Tridawn, Magi of Chaos, Tide Bider, Uraeus, etc. It makes sense to focus on the strong meta cards and it's no different than normal play except not being able to choose OP legendaries like Dr Blight which is in my thumbnail. Most of the time Dr Blight vs non Dr Blight teams is like a free win difference hence the Oh no free win text above.

As for the summoners, I guess the best strategy would be to play the solid high tier summoners. For example if you own or rent some god tier legendary summoners like Kitty, Yodin and Immortalis, then you can try to fit them in depending on which ruleset.

The Battle

I played this battle on my account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in Wild Diamond League. The ruleset for this battle was Weak Magic, Close Range and Lost Legendaries It was a 24 mana cap with only the earth element banned.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner, Kelya - I chose Kelya because it's good in low mana battles with the sneak. Furthermore, there is a weak magic ruleset so that armor can even block magic damage which is super strong since earth element is banned and there's nothing to worry about an Immortalis play.

First Position, Chaos Agent - I chose Chaos Agent to be my frontline. It's main purpose was to dodge and tank as many hits as it can.

Second Position, Noa the Just - I chose Noa the Just to be my secondary tank since chaos agent is infront. I found that Chaos Agent + Noa the Just is an alternative to the baakjira play. Noa the Just comes with good utility with the rust which makes this lineup work even better with the sneak and opportuniy from the dps.

Third Position, Deeplurker - The main purpose of Deeplurker was to follow up my sneak creatures. Since this card is a common and same/less speed than Pelcaor Bandit and Uraeus it can help follow and attack the backline or any low health targets.

Fourth Position, Uraeus - The purpose of this card was to aim at squishy backline. The poison also comes in handy against armored units.

Fifth Position, Pelacor Bandit - The purpose of this card was to aim the backline first. It can also end up great at dodging sneak units with it's high speed and flying.

Last Position, Igor Darkspear - Igor Darkspea was my last unit. It was mainly there to get some stuns off while also tanking a set of attacks from opposing sneak units.

Analysis of The Battle

I feel I played this battle really well. Kelya is one of the summoners I like to play in this ruleset due to the great epic units it has like Tide Bider, Nerissa Tridawn and Noa the Just. My Chaos Agent dodged quite a number of attacks. I was able to clear the opponent's backline faster with my sneak and opportunity. I think the extra speed played a role which my opponent didn't have since they chose to go for buffing their melee damage since it allowed me to clear some units from the opponent without even giving them a chance to attack. For example, in the first round in the first 3 attacks the opposing Uraeus was already taken down. I think my lineup being able to attack first played a pivotal role in this battle.

I'm quite unsure why the opponent played the way they did. It might be a bot it migh tnot be but

Do I Like Lost Legendaries?

Personally, I think Lost Legendaries is a great ruleset and it's a bit fresh not having to see a Legendary unit being used. I just wish they also disabled Legendary Summoners to be here as well. Maybe it's something that will be changed in the future since it's kind of weird that we can still use legendary summoners in this ruleset despite the name of "lost legendaries" as the ruleset. Either that or they can add a new ruleset that only disabled legendary summoners. That would be quite interesting in my opinion.
