Weekend Event #184.png

Introduction

I'm maintaining my weekly post for Gods Unchained. I usually nature spam with the same deck every week but with this initiative I'm trying out different gods and different decks. This weekend event #184 I tried a nether zombie deck using the death god. I actually amended my deck a few times but I feel it's still not strong enough. Anyways I will be sharing my thoughts on my deck and going through my performance.

My Deck & Analysis

I played a mid game Nether zombie deck. I am missing some cards that could make this deck better which is why I feel I didn't perform that well. This is a pretty budget deck and I just tried it out since I have a diamond Netherswarm Lord. You can find the decklist here and if you're interested in seeing the previous versions of this deck before this final amendment, you can check out my profile here.

1-3 mana
I have Iron-tooth Goblin as my relic removal. I added this in my final amendment because there was just way too many annoying relics I was facing. Blight Bomb and Curse of Greed was used for early game board removal. Undead Roach was a good opening card for first turn with 1 mana. Void Banshee, Wicked Fae and Voracious Fiend were early board pressure cards so I could set up my zombies. Chiroptic Hemovore was just a cheese card that can do 2 damage to my opponent and heal 2 for myself. Now that I think about it maybe it's not that great of a card but it's funny if you can win with it. Then Cursed Obelisks and Necroscepter are the core cards in this deck; they just fill your board with zombies and if your opponent can't remove them fast enough or doesn't have any counter play you pretty much win the game early.

4-5 mana
Decaying Rhino was used as a beefy high stats card that usually forced a few cards to remove him from the board. Undead Chimera has good stats and helped do damage to the opponents face since it can deal 2 damage with roar and 2 damage every time it attacks. Corpse explosion was a win condition if my zombies were dominating the board I could do 15 damage to opponent in one turn. Netherswarm Lord was used for card draw as well as buffing my zombies. Ray of Disintegration was used as creature removal as well as the bonus of 2 damage to the opponent. The Rotted One was a huge monster card with 8 attack and 8 health which gives a backfire of 10 damage to yourself if you don't have 20 cards in graveyard + hand. It's easy to get this amount of cards with the amount of zombies being summoned which is why I chose this card. It's kind of risky though as I lost a game because the magic god just hit my face after summoning this and they barely beat me.

6-7 mana
Bifurcating Curse was for board removal. There were a lot of early aggro decks that were bullying me and giving me a hard time to control the board so I added this in my last amendment to help stay in the game if there was too much monsters on opponent's board. Vampiric Skull was for bringing back my Cursed Obelisks if they died; that was my main purpose for using this card. Overseer of Vitality was my finishing card. It can remove opponent's monsters as well as buff my own and it actually won me quite a few games.

My Performance

As you can see below, my performance wasn't that great. I ended up with less than a 50% win rate with 7 wins out of 18 games. I started in Ethereal Diamond and by the end of the last game I ended up in Auric Gold. I'll have to grind back up over the week with my nature deck. Honestly, I think this deck isn't that good in the current meta. There's just way too many broken cards now that can remove board or have stronger board presence. It seems like everyone also has relic removal which kind of destroys Necroscepter and I even had bad RNG where there was relic removal in the Sanctum which helped my opponent remove Necroscepter. In conclusion, this is just a meme deck and I think it can be played for fun but it's nowhere near competitive enough to compete in the weekend event. That's all for me for this week. I think week next week I will try an early aggro light deck that buffs monsters subject to change since I have to create the deck and look at what cards I have to play this deck.

Nice job! Some thoughts on the deck:

  1. I like Chiroptic Hemovore. Fun card. Decent enough for a single copy, but there are better options.
  2. Rotted One is bad. I really want him to be good, but he isn't.
  3. Bifurcating Curse is probably not the right fit for this deck. It's a better fit for control decks that play most of the game with no creatures on their side of the board.
  4. Ray of Destruction should be 2x for sure.
  5. Cursed Obelisks are probably better in the current meta than they were a few months ago when strength-steal deception and light were so prevalent. Back then you ran 1x or none.
  6. I really like skeletal hoplites in zombie decks, and they are dirt cheap.

Thanks for your advice. I really just made this deck on the spot but ya that skeletal hoplites probably could've helped my early board game. I lost quite a few battles cause of the early game. I didn't get to set up my board fast enough. It's ok though I think I won't play this again xD. I don't like losing :P. So you thinking ray of destruction for bifurcating curse? Well to be fair his name is "rotten one" . I don't know I thought it could be better but can't get 20 cards in graveyard fast enough for him to pop off and taking 10 damage for playing hurts too much :(.

I am testing a Death Deck on CASUAl, I think I am going to change some cards, and try this archetype of yours.
