Introduction

If you may not know, Splinterlands has teased Invennium on their most recent townhall. I will be covering what's Invennium and explaining my thoughts regarding this and how it will impact Splinterlands.

Invennium + Chibi Dinos

Invennium will be a project by Splinterlands to help build games from scratch onto web3 using a template of codebase. If I'm not wrong this template of codebase was the code used to build Splinterlands. Chibi Dinos is a NFT project on ETH chain. Seems like they have a floor of 0.05 eth on Opensea which is around 100 USD. In the townhall, Aggy said that Chibi Dinos came to Splinterlands for help to build this game and that Chibi Dinos will be the first game to utilize Invennium.

Thoughts on Invennium & Implications for Splinterlands

There is a lot of potential for this if executed well. I don't think there's anything particular unique for Invennium except that maybe this will help onboard games onto the hive blockchain? Invennium is definitely not the only project that is helping to build games onto web3. There's definitely competition for this space and some platforms that I can call on the top of my head are Immutable, Elixir games & Gamespace. In a good way, this shows that there's demand for this type of service since I think game companies are seeing the value in having games on web3. Even Squareenix partnered with Elixir games and are going to come out with a web3 game called Symboigenesis. It's super important to have the execution as it will allow for a great testimonial. A great example of this is the testimonial from Cross The Ages about IMX in their most recent YouTube video.

So what does this all mean for Splinterlands. Well if Chibi Dinos becomes a successful game, then this will bring more users to hive. It will be easier for these users to get into Splinterlands since they are already on the hive blockchain. Splinterlands will also be able to get more partnerships that want to develop games onto web3. Although I'm not too sold on the Chibi Dinos, the founder of Chibi Dinos, Sean Kelly, is pretty impressive with almost 10 million followers on Instagram. This is a huge base of people that have the potential of playing the Chibi Dinos game with a bit of shoutout from Sean Kelly to advertise his own game.

Furthermore, this will provide more revenue for Splinterlands to possibly increase the development of Splinterlands and speed things up. We could see Splinterlands creating a huge gaming ecosystem around Splinterlands similar to what Gala has now. Splinterlands would be on the top of this ecosystem and everyone would have exposure to the game and could end up trying and loving Splinterlands. If they can somehow tie the need for SPS to all these game they add to their ecosystem using Invennium, it can definitely boost up the market value of SPS.

Concluding Thoughts

I think overall the news about Invennium is pretty bullish news for Splinterlands. I still think that we still need to be realistic and see how Splinterlands executes this project. They said that this project wouldn't affect Splinterlands development and I hope that's true. I hope the team still has their main focus on making Splinterlands the best web3 game and not just in tokenomics but gameplay as well. I really hope the best for Splinterlands.
