We All Had That Moment And Oh Boy I Didn't Like That Moment

For me, birthdays aren't anything special anymore at least when it comes to my birthdays hence I don't really like celebrate it. In a sense, I'm forced into the celebrations since friends or family usually want to celebrate it. Every birthday makes me realize time is moving faster and faster for me even though it's still the same 24 hours 7 days a week 365 days in a year. Some people say it's the day we are one year older and others say it's one year closer to death. My birthday is approaching in a bit over a month's time and I'm still shocked at how fast the year has gone by. Anyways, I don't mind getting wished happy birthday but I don't expect or want any gifts or anything.

In terms of other people's birthday, I don't mind celebrating but the bare minimum I would do would be to wish them happy birthday. If it was close friends or family, I would probably treat them to a meal, hangout or whatever they wanted to do. If it was a girlfriend or wife if I had one, well then maybe I would probably consider giving a gift to let her be happy because I think most woman love gifts if I'm not wrong. This gift though would probably be something that took time like maybe a video or some handicraft work. I think these types of gifts would be better to give than buying something as I feel it's more meaningful but that's just me.

Don't Put Me In The Center Of Attention
I'm someone that never really liked attention or wanted to stand out. Based on this, it would make sense right that I dislike celebrating my birthday. I would be fine with just doing a fun activity or eating at a nice restaurant. I don't need a cake in fact I don't really like to eat cake and as mentioned before I also wouldn't want gifts either.

That Moment We All Experienced Once On One Of Our Birthdays
As for the next thing I want to discuss, I think everyone has experienced this before. Have you ever received the attention when you celebrate your birthday at a restaurant when they sing for you on your birthday if you or your family/friends tell them about it. I think when I looked back it did feel a bit embarrassing for me. I'm not sure about others but I don't like that attention when the whole restaurant would take a glance at the birthday boy/girl table and even sang along sometimes with everybody.

Time sure flies. I was looking for some birthday photos I had and found one on my mom's facebook of when I had my 17th birthday and if I remember correctly the restaurant workers sang happy birthday to me.

Well I get the center of attention part, can be uncomfortable 😖

Aside from that, I do feel that there is much to be celebrated ✌️

P.S. Is that photo taken in Swensen's?

The much to be celebrated maybe good for you la since you like to party :P

No la this photo not in Swensens. This photo when I'm still in California and the restaurant was a steakhouse called Chops which was in sacramento if I'm not wrong but this place closed down already when I searched from google so rip.

I'm not a big fan of my own birthdays either but society has dictated that we are supposed to do something for people on their nameday. These days I try to keep the fact that it is my birthday a secret but my friends know that I don't want a party so they actually go out of their way to make it bigger and bigger every year.

I may have to move to a city where no one knows me and start over :P

Hey I know that feeling but luckily I didn't have too many close friends so I didn't have this issue. it's probably more towards family. Society dictated a lot of things :P some were needed but some are questionable but people wont question like for example we should be standing in the elevator facing the door. This is considered the norm and it makes sense since we have to see whos coming in I guess but why can't we challenge this and face the people. I think that would be funny.

I don't think you'd move away. That seems like more work for you to move everything and get used to living in a new place? unless you're the type that likes to go around the world

well the moving away part was just a joke. When they throw me a surprise party it isn't really a surprise and I do appreciate it. I just always hope that nobody buys and gifts because I never reciprocate. As a rule I don't buy birthday gifts and don't want people to get them for me either because I think it creates a never-ending circle of wasteful spending.

Well sometimes the best gift is the one u spent time to make or just spending time iwth the person is good enough. Like if you artistic you could draw somethign for that special person be it gf or wife . but ya if it's spending money i agree with you that it is a never-ending cycle of wasting money

I just know that while my friends and I are pretty close, they don't actually KNOW what it is that I want and if they do give me a gift I normally have to pretend that I like it until it just sits in my house for months and I eventually give it to someone else who also doesn't want or need it or I throw it away. I would rather people just buy me a drink at least I know I can use that!

O.O well can always give money. don't tell me u dont like money :o. but ya i get what u mean tho. if we get like a gift outside of money its hard unless u really know the person. i did get giftcard before for people since its safe. O.O no drink for me mabye for me buy me food hehe.

giftcards are probably a good option... kind of devoid of emotion though. I don't know. I just don't like the idea of feeling obligated to give gifts to people on their birthday and I insist that they don't to it for me. If there is a party and I am aware of it I tell people that any gifts will be given to charity.... of course I never actually do that because it would be very rude :)

O.O yes devoid of emotion but i think its the thought that counts. at least they giving something that can be used ;c over something u probably wont use right.

yeah the days of giving me a book or a sweater are long behind me. I remember one year when my family sat down and said that we were all going to agree to not buy xmas presents for one another anymore. At that point in time me and my siblings were all grown up and no longer lived with our parents so the gifts we would get for one another, it was clear that it was just a waste of money because even though our family members are important to us, we don't spend enough time around them to actually know what they like and / or need. It was just a waste of money so we agreed to turn up for xmas gatherings from that point forward with good booze or food items that we could all share. Then the parents would take us somewhere like go skiing and pay for it. It was a much better idea than shirts that don't fit or books that we have already read.

One year both me and my brother got my mom the same book and didn't know that we had done so until she opened it. To make matters even better my Mom already owned the book and had finished it already.

what about the days of being sung happy birthday at the restaurant? does that still happen?

I get your feeling. nothing really happens with bdays anymore. maybe just food and a cake. :D we all grown up now. I think your family made the right choice. At least everyone was in agreement. I'm not sure about what u guys but here in Asia especially for Chinese they do big birthday celebrations for when you're hitting 60,70,80,90 and 100~

the decade birthdays are still considered important. I've personally passed 4 of them already, heading towards number 5 :)

The Happy Birthday song at restaurants is still a thing and it has become a bit of a joke to tell the waiter that it is someone's birthday even when it isn't their birthday. With my friends if we go out someone is almost certainly going to have happy birthday sung to them and the deal is you never spill the beans about that it isn't actually your birthday. It's embarrassing and kind of fun.

ouch that means you're like over 10-15 years older than me :o im only approaching number 3 and still far from doing everything and acheiving everything i want to

woah. do the restaurants not check ID lol. They do here so there's no way u could get away with that in Asia. XD
