Have you take your time to think of what stutterers/stammerers are going through? someone who is not dumb but could not express himself or herself fluently, someone who keep repeating a particular sound involuntarily, those kinds of people battles with low self esteem, some would even find it very difficult to socialize with people in order to avoid been mocked... That kind of life is something else.

Bullying has different meaning but for me I will define it as a persistent or consistent act that is made and done to make life unpleasant for another person.
There different kinds and dimensions of bullying one of them is verbal bullying; saying things that will make someone feel bad about him or herself.

I could remember back then in primary school, there was a particular guy that joined us in Basic five(5), very handsome, calm, good looking kid, brilliant but he's a stutterer... You will say how is that a barrier? but I tell you, it means alot, I know of some people till date who had grown to the stage of adulthood and still suffers from low self esteem because they stutter, they could not socialize and relate well with people due to the thought that people will make jest of them and also see them as inferior..

So, for the new student, he started encountering different bully's right from his first day in school, when our class teacher asked him to introduce himself, his stuttering was so bad that he could hardly pronounce three words conveniently, I could hear him say his name is Andrew...
Afterwards, he kept repeating some words that seems difficult for him over and over again, what else do you expect, everyone burst into laughter and start making jest of him, even though our teacher tried to make cover for him and also warned us seriously not to try that again..

But do we listen? Absolutely NO, I have stubborn classmates...Lol, they would not stop, my class use to be the most troublesome class, I don't think we ever spent a week or two without been punished by one teacher or the other...

The main drama happened some weeks after, when he got into a fight with one girl like that (bashira by name) after been caught in the act by one our teachers, they asked them both to explain what caused their fight, Bashirat went first and then it was Andrew's turn to explain his own side of the story...

I tell you it was a disaster, his stammering increased drastically this time the teacher himself could not pin point what he was trying to say, and my classmates as usual started making jest again, this time it was to the extreme, they gave him all sort of names, laughed at him for days, I think the shame was too much for him, because he had to leave our school for another...

Anyways I do not think bullying people is cool not to talk of people with disabilities, moreso, we can eradicate bullying if we can love our neighbors just like ourself.

Thanks for reading...

Stuttering is not meant to be laughed at, because it makes it worse for the person that is trying to convey their feelings. But I have seen people outgrow it, so there is always hope. And it is sure as hell not a reason to be bullied.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Yeah, the more they are being laughed at the more worse it gets for some people...
Have also seen cases where stuttering is being outgrown.

The truth is, fingers are not equal and we're born the same so we should just try to love one another irrespective of our differences.
