As soon as the cold winter wind starts blowing, my mind feels a little uneasy. A different kind of festival begins when the stove is lit in the corner of our small market. This evening is a little different. On my way back from work or office, I stopped at that familiar shop on the roadside. Seeing the sight of the steaming hot chitai pitha makes my mouth water. The gentle heat of the fire in the earthen stove, along with the strange rhythm of making pitha, both body and mind are connected.

There is no pomp in eating this pitha on the side of the road, no glitz of an expensive restaurant. There is only pure Bengaliana and love. These few moments are like finding yourself anew in the crowd of thousands of busy people. A very simple dish, but there is a lot of emotion behind it.
