The Phill from GCHQ Comicbook // An Idea turned into Reality

Dear friends,

yesterday was a big big day for me: The printed version of the webcomic "Phill from GCHQ" by @katharsisdrill finally arrived at my home! I'm so happy and super excited about this.

Look, how beautiful it is:

Phill who?

About four years ago, @katharsisdrill started posting the first page of comic on his diaspora profile and on Steemit. What was planned as only a three page experiment ended up being one of the most recognized and successful webcomics of Steemit with 89 pages and counting.

After a few pages I asked @katharsisdrill, if I could do the German translations (soon to be followed by @vcelier, who did the French version) and post them on my Steemit profile for the German community.

This intensive collaboration on the comic then turned into a real friendship at one point.

Kickstarter

Soon after the first part of the comic series was finished, the idea arose to turn it into a real comicbook. But it took quite a while until @katharsisdrill actually started a Kickstarter campaign to make it really happen.

That was about 5 month ago and now I'm so happy to hold it in my hands.

I had goosebumps while opening the package and flipping through the book.

An Idea turned into Reality

It's such an amazing feeling to see, how the idea of publishing a free-to-read (CC-BY) comic turned into something beautiful like this. It was even supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, which made it possible to create a luxury edition.

If you ever were in doubt, that it is very rewarding to do what you like most, this might be a very good example.

Additional Prints

In addition to the signed comic-book, I received some really beautiful extra artworks, that were offered as a perk on Kickstarter. Here is one, that I instantly framed and hung on the wall of my living room. Notice the red sigil-stamps, which are kind of a signature.

Also look at this beautifully hand-inked work:

Did I mention already, that I'm so super-happy about these?

How to get yours!

If you missed the Kickstarter, you can still mail to Katharsisdrill and order an album. He's currently on a family trip, but as far as I know, he will also set up a webshop, when he's back in early August.

Danke und thanks for reading!

Awesome! It feels kind of surreal to hold it in my hands in all its luxury, but I'm loving it! Definitely planning on reading it again as well.

As I am currently in Europe (Hungary currently, then France in September), I will only see my copy when I return to British Columbia at the end of September. From what you and @steevc have described, and because I know how dedicated @katharsisdrill is, I am sure I will be totally happy when I am able to have it in my hands.

Great! I am looking at all the packages on their way, and couldn't see if you had yours. Happy that you like the extras. I owe you and Vincent a lot more than just mentioning you in the colophon. I am back to work on the second album and it will be a spectacular last 20 pages (this one will be 64 pages).

I'll write you and Vincent soon just to keep up the contact.

It has always been a great pleasure and and honour to be part of the journey! 😃
Hopefully I will find time again to get back to translating the remaining pages.
Can't wait to see how the story continues and the second album will turn out. Looking forward to your mail!
