Super Short Movie Review

In light of last year’s riots and global reaction to police brutality, finally we have a laser-focused film about the duplicitous dangers of assumption and a window into the painful but human experience of confronting not just our own sins but the sins of others. It’s been a while since I’ve seen someone so effortlessly carry a film by their solo performance—especially since it was just one man talking on the phone the entire time. We are all sinners, but we are also all human and evil only starts where empathy ends.

Final Grade

B+

Final Note

(Spoiler Warning)
I really could’ve done without that last line by the female cop when she said, “Broken people save broken people.” Nearly threw my phone at the TV. Truly felt like an unnecessary extra brush stroke that nearly tarnished one of the film’s final twists—almost akin to when they say the title of a film in a movie. One of art’s cardinal rules: Show, DON’T tell.
