This post is about my first and second battle with Moongrum Carrion Knight, a mini-boss in Raya Lucaria Academy in the video game Elden Ring on Playstation 4.

I met this mini-boss near the end of Raya Lucaria Academy right after the fight against the Red Wolf Of Radagon boss fight. This should've been a more epic battle but it's a pretty standard mini-boss fight where they kind of appear like an invading player -- I love the duel-style aspect of it.

I kick things off with a Lightning Spear incantation to see how much damage magic/lightning does to him, which takes away a good chunk -- 303 damage -- and seems to stop him in his tracks. When I first see that this enemy is a Carrion Knight I find it awkward that I'm wearing Carrion Knight armor that I just picked off a corpse somewhere.

A little awkward.

Dodging around to see how aggressive this enemy is, I summon another Lightning Spear since his shield doesn't seem to do much magic protection which is surprising.

This next Lightning Spear does 281 damage and stuns him again.

I'm trying to back out of his relatively slow attacks when I accidentally run into a statue.

The camera does this cool thing when I get too close to the statue and zooms in for a pretty epic close-up of the Carrion Knight mini-boss in midair.

Thankfully I'm able to dodge-roll to my left and narrowly miss the downward swipe of his sword.

Hitting him with quicker Lightning Spear incantation I notice the damage is a lot lower and my attack seems to just fizzle on his shield, neither pushing back or stunning him at all.
Maybe his shield has an inconsistent chance of magic negation?

Since it hadn't pushed or stunned him, I was now vulnerable to attack.

And paid dearly for it while wondering what the blue lights from his sword were -- possibly a combination of physical and magical damage from his sword.

Still staggering from his previous attack, I watch Carrion Knight prepare to swing again.

Thankfully, my staggering ends and I dodge-roll out of the way of his sword.

Annoyed that his shield had somehow absorbed some of my Lightning Spear incantation, I switch off to Frozen Lightning to see what his shield will do to an area attack.

The only issue with Frozen Lightning is the delayed effect -- first it strikes the ground ...

... Then it erupts with multiple smaller bolts followed by a larger bolt but somehow Carrion Knight just runs right through the smaller bolts without taking any damage ...

... And takes out another huge chunk of my life with a deadly swing!

Carrion Knight's apparent invulnerability even holds through the larger Frozen Lightning bolt when it strikes the ground -- so when he tries to swipe at me again ...

... I luckily Bloodhound Step out of the way, vanishing from in front of him ...

... And reappearing to his far right.

I run away and put some distance between his, along with a statue he's forced to walk around, while I cast a Healing incantation to fix my health.

Switching elements, I hit him with a Black Flames fireball incantation to the face for some nice burn damage.

Just when I've got him below half-life, Carrion Knight heals himself with a health potion.

And then dodges my second Black Flames fireball.

I stun him with a return to my Lightning Spears and while staggering back he actually crackles with electricity which makes my attack look rather badass.

Somehow even without his shield, Carrion Knight manages to eat my next Lightning Spear without staggering ...

... And quickly swipes me with his sword.

He tries to cast a sorcery spell but I interrupt with a thrust of my sword.

Then hit him again with a follow-up strike!

He tries again and this time manages to partially-summon it ...

A massive Glinstone Greatsword but I'm already on the move to interrupt it.

Unfortunately after successfully canceling out his sorcery sword, he dodge-rolls out of my next attack and kills me with a strike to the back.

I remember fighting this guy. he parries. lol.
He was an interesting opponent, my magic did not consistently stagger him and he would attack during my attacks. It would've made for a much more interesting fight if his life bar had been bigger lol
Shortshots the Elden Ring Master🔥
I'm absolutely enjoying your game play, like watching a movie😅
😓Ah tough luck at the end, I bet lesson learnt. You'd trash him in your next encounter😜🔥
Thank you! It's funny the first battle was a lot more engaging but I got too confident and didn't heal when I should've but in my second attempt I just kept blasting him with magic which did the job. Thanks for checking out my post!
