Here's some quick info on the game:

(Actual post is BELOW this intro info!)

[GAMEPLAY] In Elden Ring, players control a customizable player character on a journey to repair the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord. The game is presented through a third-person perspective, with players freely roaming its interactive open world. Gameplay elements include combat using several types of weapons and magic spells, horseback riding, and crafting.

[STORY] Elden Ring takes place in the Lands Between, a fictional landmass ruled over by several demigods. It was previously ruled over by the immortal Queen Marika, who acted as keeper of the Elden Ring, a powerful force that manifested as the physical concept of order. When Marika eventually shattered the Elden Ring and disappeared, her demigod children began warring over pieces of the Ring in an event called the Shattering. Each demigod possesses a shard of the Ring called a Great Rune, which corrupts them with power. In the game, the player character is a Tarnished, one of a group of exiles from the Lands Between who are summoned back after the Shattering. As one of the Tarnished, the player must traverse the realm to repair the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord.

This post is about my first and second battle with Moongrum Carrion Knight, a mini-boss in Raya Lucaria Academy in the video game Elden Ring on Playstation 4.

I met this mini-boss near the end of Raya Lucaria Academy right after the fight against the Red Wolf Of Radagon boss fight. This should've been a more epic battle but it's a pretty standard mini-boss fight where they kind of appear like an invading player -- I love the duel-style aspect of it.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.28.02 AM.png
I kick things off with a Lightning Spear incantation to see how much damage magic/lightning does to him, which takes away a good chunk -- 303 damage -- and seems to stop him in his tracks. When I first see that this enemy is a Carrion Knight I find it awkward that I'm wearing Carrion Knight armor that I just picked off a corpse somewhere.

A little awkward.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.29.30 AM.png
Dodging around to see how aggressive this enemy is, I summon another Lightning Spear since his shield doesn't seem to do much magic protection which is surprising.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.29.42 AM.png
This next Lightning Spear does 281 damage and stuns him again.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.30.33 AM.png
I'm trying to back out of his relatively slow attacks when I accidentally run into a statue.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.30.14 AM.png
The camera does this cool thing when I get too close to the statue and zooms in for a pretty epic close-up of the Carrion Knight mini-boss in midair.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.31.00 AM.png
Thankfully I'm able to dodge-roll to my left and narrowly miss the downward swipe of his sword.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.33.30 AM.png
Hitting him with quicker Lightning Spear incantation I notice the damage is a lot lower and my attack seems to just fizzle on his shield, neither pushing back or stunning him at all.
Maybe his shield has an inconsistent chance of magic negation?

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.34.24 AM.png
Since it hadn't pushed or stunned him, I was now vulnerable to attack.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.35.13 AM.png
And paid dearly for it while wondering what the blue lights from his sword were -- possibly a combination of physical and magical damage from his sword.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.38.29 AM.png
Still staggering from his previous attack, I watch Carrion Knight prepare to swing again.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.38.53 AM.png
Thankfully, my staggering ends and I dodge-roll out of the way of his sword.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.39.16 AM.png
Annoyed that his shield had somehow absorbed some of my Lightning Spear incantation, I switch off to Frozen Lightning to see what his shield will do to an area attack.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.39.30 AM.png
The only issue with Frozen Lightning is the delayed effect -- first it strikes the ground ...

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.39.44 AM.png
... Then it erupts with multiple smaller bolts followed by a larger bolt but somehow Carrion Knight just runs right through the smaller bolts without taking any damage ...

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.40.01 AM.png
... And takes out another huge chunk of my life with a deadly swing!

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.40.35 AM.png
Carrion Knight's apparent invulnerability even holds through the larger Frozen Lightning bolt when it strikes the ground -- so when he tries to swipe at me again ...

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.40.47 AM.png
... I luckily Bloodhound Step out of the way, vanishing from in front of him ...

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.40.59 AM.png
... And reappearing to his far right.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.42.25 AM.png
I run away and put some distance between his, along with a statue he's forced to walk around, while I cast a Healing incantation to fix my health.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.44.08 AM.png
Switching elements, I hit him with a Black Flames fireball incantation to the face for some nice burn damage.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.44.29 AM.png
Just when I've got him below half-life, Carrion Knight heals himself with a health potion.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.44.48 AM.png
And then dodges my second Black Flames fireball.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.46.50 AM.png
I stun him with a return to my Lightning Spears and while staggering back he actually crackles with electricity which makes my attack look rather badass.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.47.07 AM.png
Somehow even without his shield, Carrion Knight manages to eat my next Lightning Spear without staggering ...

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.47.30 AM.png
... And quickly swipes me with his sword.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.50.16 AM.png
He tries to cast a sorcery spell but I interrupt with a thrust of my sword.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.50.52 AM.png
Then hit him again with a follow-up strike!

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.51.15 AM.png
He tries again and this time manages to partially-summon it ...

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.51.25 AM.png
A massive Glinstone Greatsword but I'm already on the move to interrupt it.

Screen Shot 2022-09-05 at 11.52.36 AM.png
Unfortunately after successfully canceling out his sorcery sword, he dodge-rolls out of my next attack and kills me with a strike to the back.

Sorry guys looks like I've hit the upload-image limit on PeakD for this post due to a steady stream of Error 500 messages lol.

So here's a video link below for both my 1st failed attempt at the Carrion Knight you saw above and my 2nd victorious attempt which was in my opinion less elegant but more effective! And for my troubles I win the CARRION KNIGHT SHIELD from the fight :)

Hope you enjoyed the post and the video above!

Feel free to leave comments below and see y'all on the next post of my Elden Ring adventure!

He was an interesting opponent, my magic did not consistently stagger him and he would attack during my attacks. It would've made for a much more interesting fight if his life bar had been bigger lol

Shortshots the Elden Ring Master🔥
I'm absolutely enjoying your game play, like watching a movie😅
😓Ah tough luck at the end, I bet lesson learnt. You'd trash him in your next encounter😜🔥

Thank you! It's funny the first battle was a lot more engaging but I got too confident and didn't heal when I should've but in my second attempt I just kept blasting him with magic which did the job. Thanks for checking out my post!
