Here's some quick info on the game:

(Actual post is BELOW this intro info!)

[GAMEPLAY] In Elden Ring, players control a customizable player character on a journey to repair the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord. The game is presented through a third-person perspective, with players freely roaming its interactive open world. Gameplay elements include combat using several types of weapons and magic spells, horseback riding, and crafting.

[STORY] Elden Ring takes place in the Lands Between, a fictional landmass ruled over by several demigods. It was previously ruled over by the immortal Queen Marika, who acted as keeper of the Elden Ring, a powerful force that manifested as the physical concept of order. When Marika eventually shattered the Elden Ring and disappeared, her demigod children began warring over pieces of the Ring in an event called the Shattering. Each demigod possesses a shard of the Ring called a Great Rune, which corrupts them with power. In the game, the player character is a Tarnished, one of a group of exiles from the Lands Between who are summoned back after the Shattering. As one of the Tarnished, the player must traverse the realm to repair the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord.

Today's ELDEN RING post is about a wonderfully generous Bloody Finger phenomena my friend Fang and I have come to call: Santa Fingers!

(If you don't have time to read through the screenshots below, I've attached a video link of the full fight at the BOTTOM of the page!)

Here I am just earning some extra runes while waiting for my friend, Fang, to activate my gold summon sign next to a nearby Grace Site.

Luckily in this gameplay footage I opened my menu screen so here's a quick look at my gear and stats.

After entering Fang's world, I thought I'd play around and dress up as the sorcerers we were fighting.

Here I am sneak-attacking a mage in the hallway -- I wonder if he's confused to see one of his own being so treacherous!

After that little fun, I switched back to my Carrion Knight armor because it's the nicest stuff I got -- in my opinion -- so far. I show Fang a hidden wall I found last time I was in Raya Lucaria Academy.

We jump down this railing after grabbing some stuff and head to another spot.

It requires hopping up some rocks to a nearby cliff.

While traversing the cliff, we get a message banner that Fang's world has been invaded by a Recusant Frenzied Vyke! Which means they probably have a madness spear ... or TWO madness spears!

FANG
Remember the last Frenzied Invader
who invaded us? Not just one Frenzied
Spear -- but TWO! So much fire ...

ME
(Paralyzed by painful yellow-flamed flashbacks)

FANG
We're just going to stay up here?

ME
Burn up here
Or burn down there?
Does it really matter?

FANG
Of all places, we get invaded
while on a narrow cliffside.

ME
Ready to get shish kebobed?

FANG
I'll see you back the grace, pal.

The red phantom of death arrives ...

The Recusant Frenzied Vykes waves hello -- perhaps he is one of the classier invaders and wishes to duel operatically on this narrow cliffside?

Not wanting to die rude, I wave hello to signal that I am also a fellow Tarnished versed in PVP etiquette.

FANG
What's that gesture mean?

ME
No clue
I'm pretty new to this too.
Maybe he's singing YMCA?

In order to confirm our duel, I point at him to signal that I'm willing to burn to death first by his spear ... while Fang sits down beside me to show he's willing to observe before it is eventually his time to burn second.

FANG
What did they just do?

ME
I think they ... just dropped an item?

FANG
You can drop items in this game?

ME
If I pick it up, does that mean it's mine?

I go over to pick it up then drop my sword when he pulls out something else ... a white rainbow stone???

I pick up the item he just dropped and realize it's free Golden Runes?!?!

I bow to this generous and kind Bloody Finger ... no they're not a bloody finger, they shall be called -- SANTA finger!

They point at something behind me so Fang and I go back and jump off the cliff to a lower platform.

They were pointing at Fang and drop some more free Gold Runes for him!

I switch on my waist-lantern due to how dark it is and bow in gratitude.

And just like that -- Santa Finger disappears!

I didn't know this game has a multiplayer version as well, I thought it has only story or campaign mode.

That character looks like iron man for the light of his chest.

Yeah the game has a co-op mode where you can summon allies and enemies to your world once your game's connected to the online server. A host player can summon two guest players to join on console but I heard they're working on a mod for PC that's increasing that amount so hosts can summon more guests than just two. Also thanks for reblogging my post! Greatly appreciated!

Summoning allies and enemies sounds cool.

Yeah it's a lot of fun to play with friends or strangers or fight other invading players.

Geez, that's the first GOOD invasion story I've heard of this game.

I only played this a little due to it being uncooperative on my system. Despite having a fantastic gaming setup, I was one of those poor slobs who had abysmal framedrops and glitches with this game. Anyway. If it had worked as I would've liked, I would've loved to have played this coop with my partner!! But the whole invasion thing scared me off.

No interest in pvp. None at all. Haha.

But this adventure with this invader sounded really good!

Yeah, I had no idea you could give or trade gear in this game. Apparently there's a Reddit community dedicated to it. I guess some veteran players travel around looking for people with good etiquette and if you pass they give you free experience points or gear and then leave haha

I haven't run into any issues while playing solo but I have seen some glitches during online co-op mode and I think it's frozen at least twice in the last month. It was a little annoying but to me nothing will be as painful as playing Cyberpunk 2077 at launch during 2020 quarantine where it crashed my PS4 at least ten times a day. I tried to play last fall but it was still crashing at least two or three times a day so I gave up. They might have DLC soon so I might punish myself out of curiosity but Elden Ring has been a massively better experience.

Invasion and PVP can be fun or horrifying. I'm not sure how they group players -- potentially it's by levels like 1-99 and 100-199 because when I first started playing online at 75 invasions and PVP weren't so bad but now that I'm level 120 I'm usually getting destroyed by most invaders. It's pretty cool that a lot of players follows good PVP etiquette though: sticking to 1 vs 1, letting you buff first, not using healing potions unless you've defeated at least one opponent. It's been both fun and interesting to learn all these rules.
