Book Review ~ Little Women: Four Sisters, One Story That Stayed With Me

Hey Book Lovers!

Today I will talk about a wonderful book by Louisa May Alcott which is Little Women. I loved this book so much that I wasn’t expecting for it at all. It’s soft and quiet. There are some moments that touch your heart without any warning. I thought it would be an old-fashioned book which will be hard to connect with, but It was my wrong conception. It feels like something deep that you didn’t know you needed.

In this book you know about four sisters. About their growing up, falling down, love and lose, and figure themselves out. There is no big drama in the book. Everything feels so real, that’s the point. It’s about ordinary life. You can see yourself in the book so well. I mean you can connect somehow. It's not like you lived the same life but in a way of small feelings, the hopes, the fights, the sadness. Everything is there which you can’t explain. This book understands so well how it looks like to be a person, a sister or a dreamer.

Story Summary and My Review

Little Women's story is about the March family. There are four sisters in the family. Their names go like Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. The story follows their journey from childhood to adulthood. Their father is away from home. He's at war, and they’re being raised by their mother, Marmee. Their financial condition isn’t that good. Money is limited, but love is unlimited.

Each sister is different in their way, they have a different perspective of life and lifestyle. Meg wants a peaceful life, a home, and love. Jo doesn’t want to be in the cage, she wants to write, to travel, to live outside the rules. Beth is shy, sweet, and always puts others first. Amy always wants beauty and attention.

If I talk about my favourite character, then Jo was my favorite from the start. She’s messy but creative and she's so full of fire. She's never thought about society and what society expected of her. She's on her way, she wants to shine like the sun. This is what made her a real person in the story. I wanted her to fulfil her dreams. Not just as a writer, but as someone who is strong enough and be true to herself.

If I talk about Beth, her character completely broke me. She’s the softest character in the book, but somehow, her story is a little bit different from all. When she was becoming sick the words of the book also became heavy to me. It was like going to the darkness from light slowly, and you can also feel it after reading every page. Yes, I cried, it's not because it was dramatic but also because it felt too real.

On the other hand, Amy surprised me. At first glance, her character was very annoying to me. She burns Jo’s manuscript, for crying out loud, but later, she becomes someone who understands the world in her own way. By the time she grows and becomes mature. If I talk about her relationship with Laurie? I wasn’t expecting it, but it made sense.

The writing style of the book is very simple. There were no fancy words to impress you. It was like telling your life story to your friends in a very simple way. That is what made it more emotional as it felt real and close to our heart. The book was written over 150 years ago, yet it feels so connected. Because It knows how siblings argue, make things messed up and have fun. It also knows how life doesn’t always go as perfect as you want. It felt like totally real life.

As I told you Jo is my favourite character throughout the story because Jo struggles a lot with marriage and writing. She just wants to be independent. She doesn’t want to just follow the usual path. And it was a proud moment for me too when she finally sees her book in print. It is crazy being proud of a fictional person, Right? It’s such a book that stays in your heart for a long time.

Recommendation?

If you want to read something old with connection like recent, you must try it out. Because it's real, you will find yourself when you read it. If you love slow, emotional stories with real characters and real connection, then this one’s for you. It won’t try to catch your attention. But it will stay with you and sometimes, that matters more.

Hey Book Lovers!

Story Summary and My Review

Parecia totalmente a vida real.

I have watched the movie. Unfortunately, I haven’t read the book yet. I think the book and the movie are similar. But the movie is not exactly the book. I hope I will read the book soon.
