A first ever…..

Afternoon everyone….

This is something that I acquired while in Las Vegas, but was not bought in Las Vegas. It was part of a group buy that I did with my brother @summertooth.

It is the very first time in history that two countries have shared a legal tender coin. It’s a Liberty & Britannia coin. These are produced by the Royal Mint as a legal tender coin. There is a United States version, but that is not a coin it is a medal. There is no denomination on the United States version so it cannot be classified as a coin.

Here is some coin info:
In 2024, the United States Mint and The Royal Mint have embarked on a groundbreaking partnership. The two sovereign mints have previously paired up on coin sets that include one design series from each mint, but have never before teamed up for a singular design. The new Britannia and Liberty Series represents just such a unique partnership.

Collaborative reverse design of Britannia and Liberty!
Limited mintage of 260,500 coins!
Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver in BU condition.
Issued a face value of 2 Pound sterling (GBP) by Britain.
The obverse includes a bust of His Majesty King Charles III.
On the reverse are the busts of Britannia and Liberty.
The new Britannia and Liberty Series marks a unique collaboration between the United States Mint and The Royal Mint. The shared Britannia and Liberty visual on coins from each mint was designed in partnership by Gordon Summers and Joseph Menna, the Chief Engravers of The Royal Mint and the United States Mint, respectively.

The special relationship between the United States of America and the United Kingdom is a term commonly used to describe the close and historically significant diplomatic, cultural, economic, and military ties between the two nations. This relationship has its roots in shared history, language, legal systems, and democratic values.

For the obverse design of 2024 1 oz Silver Britannia and Liberty Coins, a bust of His Majesty King Charles III is featured. This left-profile relief captures the monarch without a crown and was created in 2022 by Martin Jennings.

The reverse side of 2024 British Silver Britannia and Liberty Coins comes with the shared design of Britannia and Liberty. The two female allegories are shown in right-profile relief when either is set upright in the design field. Britannia wears her famous Corinthian helmet and clutches a trident, while Liberty has stars in her hair and a torch in her hand.

I think this will be a winner….

Here is the coin…….

It took me a while. At first I didn't see Liberty at all. I get it now. It probably would have been easier if I were on my phone, then I could turn it!

Cool, I wonder if this series will continue with a Canada/USA version, Mexico/USA and France/USA?
